  1. what a disrespectful slur.... the same could be said by other classes of car owners about or beloved o2's....right? respect mr dude....respect Perhaps you should read my post again or you should spend a bit more time in this marque before you interpret facts as disrespect. I never said that I didn't like E21's. I have owned a 78 US 320i, an 83 Baurtop 323i, an Alpina B6 and an 83 Alpina clone with an M50 vanos engine started by Paul Cain and finished by yours truly. I liked them all. With the exception of the B6, none of them are really worth anything in today's BMW collector market. Deserved or not, there is simply no market for E21's. There is a 78 that is a former BMWCCA concours winner with 30k on it that has been for sale on the Peachtree chapter website for over a year. The guy can't get 7k for it. Get the point? M88 engines (like the one in the E21 pictured) came in the early series M cars before importation into the US (M635i, Euro M5). They are rare and very expensive. They are also very expensive to rebuild. I just spent more than the cost of a good 2002 to do the mechanical refurb on the one in my 85 Euro M5. It makes absolutely no sense (to me) to put that kind of mill into an E21. That is logic, not disrespect. I would suggest that if you actually knew more about the marque that you would have gotten it the first time you read it.
  2. What a terrible waste of an M88. The engine is worth far more than the car. It is still an E21 which means it's worth about 12 cents. An m20 or even an m50 vanos mill would have been more in character with the car and it's value. Rebuilds on M88's run about 15k. Sucks to see one in an E21. Just my opinion. All that said, looks like a quality build. There is usually a cooling problem related to no breathing space in the engine bay (related to heat buildup). I had an E21 with an m50 in it and even with a 535i radiator, heat was still a problem. The M88 makes much more heat than the m50. Be interesting to see how they solved that problem.
  3. Mike, Looks like you and Aubrey had a great trip. I look forward to our Spring trip to Ar. Looks like a really nice car. Glad you guys made it back ok. Tim
  4. Contact Kevin Chinn at Creative Options Unpholstery in Atlanta. He is well known for being able to source rare fabric (Alpina, MTech, etc.). He can also match most fabric from other catalogs. www.seatkit.com
  5. Bill, I spoke with Anita via email. She is driving the newly refreshened E34 Alpina B10 Bi-turbo. She wanted to know if the 02 guys could keep up. I told her that I didn't think anyone I knew would be able to keep up with her! I am really looking forward to seeing it and the other cars I haven't seen.
  6. There were rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn in Corning and the Best Western in Horseheads a few days ago.
  7. Bill, I confirmed that with Apina directly a while back. Even the new B7 has a BMW roundel. My B9 had Alpina roundels when I got it and thats when I did the research and replaced them with BMW ones. All that said, I think they look pretty neat on the right car. Tim
  8. Mars, I called (607-535-3003) a couple of weeks ago and they emailed me the confirmation. Registration is Friday at the Wings of Eagles Museum. I got stuff in the mail last week. No tickets, just a schedule and confirmation letter. Tim
  9. I am digging that. If it becomes available in the US, I may have to get another 02 to put it in.
  10. Mike, The M5 has 50 more hp than the B9 (although it doesn't handle nearly as well and is heavier). I thought maybe with the add'l power, I could keep up with your touring! Tim
  11. Looking forward to it. I am having major issues with the Motronic on the Euro M5. I am headed back to Fl to pick up The Alpina B9 just in case I cant get it figured out. Just another reason not to buy cars with electronics. Either way, I will be there.
  12. Funny that you say that. I used to have those same seats in my Inka 74. I got the fabric from Recaro to upholster the rear bench. It looked great. That car is in Alabama last I checked. I think you can still get the fabric from them. I saw a set last year in an early 911 which was black with orange racing stripes and they looked very cool. They are very overpriced me thinks.
  13. Ashleigh, If you can make it, I will give you something special to drive. BTW, many thanks for the BMW Clubs of Way Down Under badge. It is on my 85 Euro M5. I will send you a pic if I can ever get the damn thing out of the shop. Tim
  14. Actually Mike, it was a pleasure following someone that could hold their line coming down the mountain! Especially afer following a 635 that sprayed gravel all over my car the whole way up. Look forward to WG. Tim
  15. Gordon Medinica, who runs the M1 registry, has at least one and lives in NY.
  16. Man! You are so right about Perini Ranch. I have their stuff shipped to me on a regular basis. It's a long way from DFW, but worth the trip. Riscky's in Ft. Worth is good as is Sonny Bryan's in Dallas. Uncle Julios (not BBQ) is good fun/food as well. I'm hungry now.
  17. There is a detailed description of the schedule on bmwcca.org. If you are only a few hours away, I would roll the dice and go. It is not always my cup of tea and in my opinion it lasts way too long and that makes it expensive. All that considered there are always some really good cars to see and most folks are nice. The concours (again, not my cup of tea, as a participant) has some just extraordinary cars and they certainly aren't all new. I am going for the driving events (if my E30 M3 is done by then) and to cheer for my friends in the concours. And Texas has some good BBQ which makes the drive wothwhile for me. Hope to see you there.
  18. WTF? How did you find out it was registered there? Can't you go down and get that shit back? Insurance company paid me . I found the car through a group of enthusiasts there several years later. It was legally (in Brazil) sold through a carbroker there and the owner has a clear title and bill of sale. That's where it ended. US authorities dont care much and neither do the Brazilians. Didn't seem to be a good move to launch a paramilitary operation. There were several 911's and a DeTomaso Mangusta stolen during the same week. My guess is they ended up in the same container.
  19. Not exactly. The spline design changed in 1985. E28's and E24's prior to mid 85 have the earlier design. I don't think it is a great looking wheel personally, but to each his own.
