  1. That is an interesting question. I have a 74 with a stage 2 twin carb engine and a 73 with an S14. Like them both. The nature of the S14 engine is that it revs high to make power and the engine tends to throw some vibration and harmonics. I tend to think that the M10 is more characteristic of the car. I have never driven an M20 2002 but would like to given the smooth wide power band of that engine. Let us know what you decide.
  2. The 15x7's are E21 wheels. They will not fit without flares (I have them on my Zender box flared 74). There is actually a 15x6 that has the correct offset.
  3. Bill, I am going to call Ruth because I know somewhere you have a Touring tattoo!
  4. I have seen a lot of David's work and it is beautiful stuff. I saw a set of seat trim bezels he did for a 3.0CSi at Vintage @ Vineyards and it was first rate. Last I checked, a person's choice on how to sell their product was a business decision, and they were free to make that decision. Why the personal comment? Let's see, why don't we insult the few people who do high quality custom work for these cars. That will be helpful to our community.
  5. Brad, I am looking for someone to do the Euro bumper conversion on the rear of my 74 (the one with the zender box flares and big M stripe) and to delete the factory bumper in the front. Because of the fenders it will require some patch work and paint matching. Could this be my guy? I have been planning on taking it to Matt McGinn, but it is a haul from Va. Tim
  6. I don't know about Richmond. There are a couple of good guys in Tidewater (2 hrs from you). I use Barry's Performance Imports in Norfolk (757-651-8564). They have worked on mine and have been racers for years (so they have fabrication capability). They just fabricated a connector from the M3 headers on my S14 to a factory turbo exhaust and a brace to absorb the gearbox vibration. They both look factory.
  7. I guess there is always 07-07-07 (02-02-02 plus 5) which is a Sat. if there is a concern about the Feb. weather. "Plus 5 @ the Zentrum" has a nice ring to it.
  8. The obvious location that comes to mind is the Zentrum. I know from talking with Minsoo (who is willing to jump in again) that the folks at the Zentrum thought the date was shakey last time because of the prospect of bad weather. We were obviously lucky. What are everyone's thoughts?
  9. Bill, see the above post. See what happens when you sit about musing. Tim
  10. I am trying to gauge the interest in 02-02-07. A five year anniversary of the 02-02-02 event. Have emailed the great folks who organised the first one. Trying to see how many people would be interested. 02-02-07 is a Friday, so we are probably talking about a Fri. night/Sat. event. Your thoughts?
  11. There were some very nice 02's in Atlanta when I lived there. There has been some discussion in the past about having a SE 02 fest. Atlanta would be the natural spot since it is somewhat central. If someone in the area (Atlanta/Spartanburg/Zentrum) would pick up the ball, I would be happy to jump in. There are lots of guys in the SE from NC to Fl and beyond (TN, AR) that would have interest. I'm sure other areas as well. 02-02-07?
  12. I think you are right given the cars I have seen recently. Perhaps it's time for a 02-02-07 event to gauge our 5yr. progress. I think it's a Friday. Might be a nice unveiling of your Touring.
  13. Bought them used to replace the 45's. Had them rebuilt and have re-jetted them 4 times in the last 3k (using the Korman jet chart). Could be I have the problem (running too rich and fouling the plugs) solved (running much leaner now). I don't think they are worth re-building twice. Just trying to find the right source should new ones be required. The last 2002 I owned with twin 40's, I re-jetted once and it ran 50k with only minor adjustment. These are more problematic.
  14. Time to replace mine. Best place to buy new ones? Thanks.
  15. When I used to live in Atl. there was something called the SE2002 Owners Group. Think I still have the T shirt. What became of it? Lots of 02s in the SE. Seems to be little interest in getting us all together. We need a SE 02Fest. Atlanta would be the spot.
  16. Paul, Well at least I tried! Sorry I can't make Monterey. Glad to hear it's on the cover of the Roundel. Best, Tim
  17. Man that was helpful. I have a white Zender boxflared 74 that I have been trying to decide the paint scheme for. Some excellent ideas. Thanks.
  18. Harry, Let's just say for now that there was an unveiling party for this car a few weeks ago and that the owner has asked his friends to stay quiet until it he shows the car. Beyond belief might be an understatement. Tim
  19. A modified 2002. Whoda thunk it? I like the look.
  20. A couple of us are thinking about organizing something in the Tampa/Orlando area in Feb. 07. Any interest? Thought it might be a good spot for a roadtrip for you cold weather types. I have enjoyed Vintage @ Vineyards and Mid-Atl fest in the past. We are thinking about a Friday PM social event, a Saturday show and shine (no concours nonsense) and a Sat PM drive and BBQ (as much of it outside as possible). Let me know what you think. Tim
  21. I think there are several layers to your question. You make a 2002 go pretty fast. It's a function of money and engineering. As with any car, major modifications usually start a chain of other mods to keep up (more hp means you need better brakes, etc). If that blows your dress up, then go for it. To me (and I own an S14 powered car), doing too much to these cars takes them out of character. For every engine choice other than an M10, there is a tradeoff (s14's vibrate, sixes weigh more, etc.). If you are just looking for performance, you have better choices for 20k. E30 M3's, E36 M3's, low mileage 944 turbos, etc.. If you are smitten with 2002's perhaps there is no other real choice for you. You will figure it out. There are a lot of resources here if you get more specific about what you want to build. All I can tell you is that I don't own either of the 02's for performance reasons and they perform pretty well for what they are.
  22. Jon, Thanks. Haven't the slightest idea how to post up a pic. If you email me at tljonesco@aol.com, I will be happy to send you some pics. Tim
