  1. The only thing I could think about at last yrs. Ofest concours was how perfect the turbo was that Dethelson did and how much I wanted to go out and dirty it up. Poor little thing is probably wasting away instead of late apexing on a favorite country road.
  2. Bruce, not trying to offend you here. I agree that our chapters are what we make of them, but regardless of that, there are large groups of Bimmer owners who are finding higher levels of commonality and enthusiasm elsewhere. The numbers and demographics support this. I am all for "lighting a candle instead of cursing the darkness" and all that, but at the end of the day 5erfest, V@V, Sharkfest, etc. are growing events while it seems that O'fest becomes smaller and more expensive each year. Inclusion would seem to be the strategic thrust here. BTW, I think it would be a great idea if the Peachtree chapter sponsored a Southeast 02fest. And yes, I would be happy to volunteer. Regards, Tim
  3. I belonged to the Peachtree about 15 yrs ago and it was a good group. Have also belonged to Tidewater and Florida Suncoast which are smaller but good folks as well. I have volunteered whenever my professional life allows. Your involvement, however laudible, is not the issue. The issue is that enthusiasts are coming together in groups that the BMWCCA has largely chosen to ignore. Some are geographic and some are virtual, all are enthusiasts looking for a common community. I have belonged to the BMWCCA for over 20yrs and my event schedule for the spring has included the Florida 5er Group's drive and attendance at the Sebring Endurance Series, Mid-America 02 fest which is a 900 mi. drive (those guys showed up at V@V last yr), Vintage at the Vineyards, and/or 5erfest. NONE of these events are sponsored by BMWCCA and all of them together will not cost as much as one O'fest. The world is changing. I personally think the BMWCCA is stuck on "playing the same game better" rather than recognising that "this is a new game".
  4. Not familiar with that one. Would love to see it.
  5. Alpina made a touring tank with larger capacity. They were sold through some dealers, Miller and Norburn, Hardy and Beck, etc.
  6. Scott, As you know, I agree with you on the cost issue. This past O'fest operated in the black and I can see why. I paid the registration fee even though I was gone most of the week for business. I only made a couple of events and none of the evening ones. Seemed pricey to me (also too long). The best event for me was the 02 drive which was free! I think the BMWCCA has to be careful here. There is getting to be quite a devide demographically and socially. There is a new generation of BMW enthusiasts that have no interest in belonging to the BMWCCA. For example, there is the CFBMW group in Orlando. Young, knowlgeable, involved, and know their wrenches. Most of them do not belong to the CCA. They view it as a bunch of old rich guys. There are many folks on this board and on the E28 board who do not belong as well. While I do not always agree with their point of view (plenty of down to earth enthusiasts in the CCA), perception is reality for those folks. Your point is well taken. Events that are high value and not high cost are the glue that keeps the enthusiast community together. Look forward to V@V. Tim Jones
  7. Harry, You the man. I have software problems because new virus protection and can't download from the site. Can you email the pic to me tljonesco@aol.com
  8. I saw a black and white pic of Bob Marley standing in front of his 02 a while back. I think it was on a UK 02 site. If anyone has the image in emailable form, would you please email it to me. tljonesco@aol.com. Thanks much. Tim Jones
  9. Try the following: Wash car and dry, remove emblems, 2 applications Zymol HD Cleanse, 1 application Zymol wax (with buffer), 1 application Zymol concours wax by hand, put emblems back on. Will take hours but you will be amazed. I did the same treatment to my Alpina B9 and the result was so good that I decided not to paint it.
  10. I've never seen non-M3 e30 factory 15's. Love to see some pics if you have them. Love the 14" baskets on an 02. Love to see some 15's. My 15x7 Alpinas required flares.
  11. E30 325is cars were delivered in the US with 14" basketweaves. The only stock 15" wheel delivered on E30's in the US were on the M3 which are 5 lugs.
  12. Are you talking about E30 325is wheels? If so, those were 14's not 15's. If this is a later 325is wheel, the offsets are different.
  13. Kai, I spent the day at Sebring (vintage races) with the 5er bunch in Fl. They had very positive response to the site and will be adding their trusted shops. Thanks, Tim Jones
  14. Well, we know he has the nut jar in the trunk.
  15. I just read a post on mye28.com where Kai Xing (E24 entusiast) and a friend developed (after two yrs. work) a user friendly website where you can check for BMW shops by zip. It includes a rating system and the ability to add shops and comments once you register. He asked for people to participate on the 5er board. I assume that means us too. I registered and added a couple of shops that I have had good experiences with and added a couple of 02 specific comments. HarryPR, this is what we were talking about a few weeks ago. Great idea. Thanks to Kai Xing.
  16. Any of the Alpina cars are pretty rare. As someone who drives one, I would also buy critical spares (AFM, guages, dashes, ecu's, etc). Those parts are virtually impossible to find in the US and Alpina does not support the older cars. I would also stay away from the earlier Alpina turbo versions (B7's for example). The E30 Evo's are very rare here but have to be federalized. I think the process exempts cars more than 25 yrs old, but you should check with someone who knows for sure. The other cars that never got imported here (E28 M5 tourings for example) would spark a lot of interest. BTW, the factory 02 turbos seem to be struggling for value. The other stuff to think about is rust. My Alpina B9 and the 323i Baur top I imported in the 80's were never really driven on Euro salt covered rds. I have seen cars that were driven for a few yrs in Europe and then imported that had very serious rust issues. Good luck
  17. Harry, I think that's a great idea. How do we start? Tim
  18. I have been using these guys for my E30 M3 and more modern stuff for a while. I had a frustrating and difficult (for me) problem with the twin 40's on my 74 02. Even though these carbs are not something they work on every day, Steve and Thomas did their research, diagnosed the problem, and turned the car arround. They also noted some other problems which I had not seen. These guys love the cars, are straightforward and honest, have great skills, and give a club discount. Highly recommended in Tampa.
  19. I have enjoyed it the couple of times I've been there but the date is too close to V@V which in my opinion is a superior event. I do think we need a Mid-Atl o2 event in the Summer or Fall. John, I may see you at Sharkfest. Tim
  20. Anyone from Fl., Atlanta, or Memphis going? My path is Tampa-Atlanta-Memphis-Eureka Springs. Thinking about a BBQ and Blues stop in Memphis.
  21. Funny thing about BMW's in South America. My favorite car of all time, a Baur top 323i (the only Inka one) which I brought in from Italy with 30km's was stolen from the Norfolk Va. airport parking lot in 1986 (the battery in my daily driver Saab was dead) and ended up in Brazil. I had a local enthusiast try to buy it back for me but no luck. Still miss that car.
