Wonder why this car is not getting a lot of bids?

First - it ain't a '70. The VIN might be from a 70, but the car in the pics is a 75 or a 76.

The wheels are the E30 "bottlecap" wheels. Those aren't original.

I don't believe the odometer. Mine currently reads 665. I guess that means it is worth more than this car. Or maybe I had NH Speedo reset it to zero when I had them re-calibrate for the new diff I put in the car.

Plus - he says the reserve is +20 K.

Don't get me wrong - it looks like a nice car - but not 20K nice.

It's been for sale for a while. The guy wants silly money for it. The other big reason other than those listed above and it being a big bumper car, is that it has been repainted. Original cars in outstanding original paint tell the story about how a car has been cared for. It is highly prized by serious car people. I recently sold a really outstanding original 635CSi and it brought a 30-40% premium as a result of having the original paint and body panels.

More former BMW's than it is possible to list.

Well, I had to write him a question to see why it's titled as a70. We'll have to wait and see what he says about that.

I see it titled as 76, I don't see where he says this particular car is a 70.

Maybe the reference to another 2002 "A 1970 2002 with 18500 orig miles sold for $37500 last November." ???

Clearly is advertized as a 76, no?

I was wondering the same.

I think the pictures on his auction just don't capture the condition of the car. There should be close ups of the rockers, door latches, glass rubber, seats, and at that milage, the clutch, brake, and gas pedals. He needs to show areas of wear that are like new. I'd forgive the bottle caps but he needs the original wheels to get the price he wants to be included in the auction. I still think 20K is high.

I would hope an educated buyer would understand that a title document is not a confirmation of actual miles. Maybe the seller thinks that is what he bought but it is highly unlikely, especially with 5 digit odometers. Here in CA you can enter any mileage you want on the transfer docs.

dimples, dimples dimples dimdimpdimples!

Actually, I'd think that was an 8k car, tops.

Higher in the rust belt, but not by more than a few k.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
