Digital Instrument Cluster?

With all the mods available out there, I’m wondering it at some point a digital instrument cluster will be made available for the 2002. Personally I would retain my OE cluster as long as possible, however I think that a digital replacement could become quite popular. Of course at least one of its displays would need to mimic the OE!

And a digital speedo would allow use of E30 318 5 speeds that don't have mechanical speedo/odometer drives for easy 2002 use.  But it would have to look like the OEM instrument for us purists!

The tach is already electronic, and fuel and temp gauges work well so long as they're properly grounded at both sender and instrument ends.

silver dollar with an E30 medium-case differential (using 2002 Underground rear assembly)

uses the diff pinwheel sensor to drive the speedo (and yes ... 120 is achievable!)

there are a few similar solutions out there ...

clearly mostly analog still ...

some folks are also using AEM display ... but that is serious restomod sutff

Start makin'!

Me, personally, having lived through the automotive wasteland that was the 80's,

I'm very allergic to non- analog (looking) dashes.

It WOULD be a neat project to take the motors out of more modern dashes,

and hide a bunch of clever electronics behind the analog sweeps.

I've worked with E46 dashes, and they're just asking to be refitted...

...but not by me, as I won't even run an electric temp gauge on a racecar.

because luddite.

I kinda like my extra analog instruments, mounted atop the dash over the old Fasten Seat Belts pod location, where you can see 'em without looking away from the road.
