Engine compartment part identification

Trying to identify the circled metal piece. Is it part #3, (Column front left)? View is of the front passenger side wheel well.

Wheel well on the opposite side is pushed in, similar to this picture. Is this done to allow bigger wheels?

Thanks,

Dennis

Realoem doesn't have the diagram for it.

It's the front firewall, outer section.

Yes, we bash hell out of it to allow overly- offset tires to

turn more than 15 degrees, but those little indents look like a tire

covered with gravel got shoved into it with some aclarity.

As in, the tire stopped, but the car kept moving.

If the other side matches, maybe both tires stopped.

That's really unusual- and would do a LOT of collateral damage.

hmmm.

Yeah, I think that's called "accident damage"--as Toby said, a wheel/tire got pushed back into that sheet metal, either from a front end hit, an off-road excursion/curb strike that bent back/tore loose the strut at the bottom, or a spindle failure with the same results.

Check to see if the nose has been replaced.  If so, then it was most likely a front end hit.  Original nose, probably off road/curb strike/strut failure.

I wasn’t there … but, I’d say “yes” - that’s the area to be modified for more tire clearance (needed with certain combination of ride height, wheel offset and tire width). -KB

The lower section looks just like mine after some persuation for tire clearance with a ballpoint hammer that happened to be there. Creases on the upper part could tell about a different story but that's hard to say.

I think it could be straightened near perfect with some hammer and dolly action.
