Change is good. There are many places to live in the US and if where you are makes you deeply unhappy it is not worth it, regardless of any history or nostalgia you have with living there. Sell for a profit and buy a nice place in an older neighborhood far away from there. You will be happier (as you said, you relax as soon as you leave your neighborhood).

OMG, Danco, you probably do not remember me, but I was riding my road bike on PCH near the H.B. and Newport Beach border some years ago and i complimented you on your car. It was a soft green '02(yeah, mock me, other FAQ members(!) :). Then I realized, that it was you from this forum. I also bought some CV joints from you for my 10 year old son and I to rebuild and picked them up from your roommate. You are so kind to make that offer!

Slavs, I do not know you, but have seen your input on this site and feel for you.

The problem "we' have is that we have lived in our communities long enough to remember when our neighbors were fantastic and people had true respect for each other...

You could vote to try and make a change, but LA county sold it's sole to liberal ideals(I don't like either "party")  a long time ago.

Take care of yourself...

Yep! I remember that. That was my 1968 Florida Green 1600. Fun little car. It lives in Texas now.

I don't think I've changed much in the last 10 years. As income rises, expenditures rise. Quality of life increases, but so does the competition. At the end of the day, an old story still rings true:

An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked.  Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna.  The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The Mexican replied, “only a little while.

The American then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish?

The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs.

The American then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos.  I have a full and busy life.”

The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”

To which the American replied, “15 – 20 years.”

“But what then?” Asked the Mexican.

The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part.  When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions!”

“Millions – then what?”

The American said, “Then you would retire.  Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

There is no logic or reason to this story. I didn't intend for it to enlighten or somehow help you. I only posted it because I liked it.

But yeah, move out of LA. That place will chew you and spit you out.

If you need a spare room to escape from what you describe as a literal hell hole, I have one available.

I already know we get along so the transition will be easy.

Thanks Danco,

I may just take you up on it over one of these weekends. The beaches in OC and San Diego Counties are really nice and clean.

Intersection take overs and extreme reckless driving have been a plague in Minneapolis lately, on top of all the other drama we have going on here.  Two weekends ago there was a clown doing donuts in an illegally blocked off intersection while the passenger was leaning out the window firing off rounds like it was the fricken wild west.  Completely surreal and unbelievable.  Of course it's all on camera and all over the interwebs, but not sure anything was done about it.  I feel your pain.

That happens almost every weekend here in Oakland, they call it a sideshow.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
