If load control is by MAF and the EFI can self correct the input MAF calibration, it's a piece of cake.  If aftermarket EFI systems had been available 14 years ago when my first was done, I could have saved 14 years of grief.  The only dyno I used was to calibrate the knock sensor for the engine native noise and knock frequency.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I would say probably not but not a point of contention here cant say ill be changing a starter very often in fact ill be changing it when i upgrade to efi

Yes so many variations which is why im looking for opinions seems like using a lot of 318 parts is the way to start

I couldn’t agree more with Zach for retaining as many stock components as possible. Manly for reliability and ease of replacement, if needed.
I also used a cold intake air box from a 325i. Works great.

Piece of cake.  Easier than the older E21 log because there is space under there that the rounded runners take up in the E21 system.  Longer arms do help though. 

 

Having used both with EFI I would say where do you want to drive/what cam do you have.  The e30 manifold has better low-end, but the volume is a bit small and constrains the top-end (overall HP) a bit.  Reverse for the E21 log with a more favorable manifold volume.

Take No 4 runner off and lots of room.  I don't see how anyone can access the starter with the 318 manifold and throttle body covering the entire area on the drivers side of the engine.  There isn't room to get a hand past the throttle body.

However the Jeep 4.0 HO throttle body is a better deal the M20 TB because it has an integral idle air valve.  Running w/o the idle air valve is hokey and the 318 setup is a bunch of hoses.

Both performed the same in tests I have done.  But the TWM ITBs ran away with the prize above 5500 rpm.

My point is that I hear a lot of griping about cars are designed and there is no maintenance access. This does not seem to be an area of forethought with these mods.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

 

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

My engine is not using a MAF or an AFM. Manifold Air Pressure is how we set ours up.

As far as pulling the starter ... I've pulled e30 and e36 starters before. It should easier than those, but harder than a stock 02.

If you look real hard, you can almost see it! lol

I've pulled the starter out with my 318 manifold/325i throttle body in place, but I did remove all of the intake plumbing forward of the TB to make more room.  Also of note I have the smaller E30 M3 starter and no washer bottle/bracket on top of the booster which both help with access.  E21 manifold would surely be better access though, and I don't think I've tried to tackle the DS motor mount with the 318 manifold yet.  I think that could be done also but yeah, probably tougher than stock or E21 setups.

my experience with a 3 liter 6 cylinder 914 race car....TWM throttle bodies, Electromotive Tek1 ….pretty simple....programming a car to be drivable  with a 906 cam took a little time, but that engine is still running strong   20 years later

One of my big reasons for going to the Haltech and MAF from AFM- the AFM takes up so much room and is such a pain in the can to deal with- So looking forward to having all that crap out of the engine bay and just have a tidy '02 looking engine bay again...  The s14 is great and all, but man all that stuff sure takes up a lot of space. (Oh, yeah, and with the carbon airbox, I think it'll be about 20 pounds out of the engine bay.?)

The Volvo LH 2.2 fuel injection system is probably the easiest and cheapest. Search "LH2.2" I can make you a setup, that could have you up and running in 2 hours.  
How cheap is cheap and idk volvo parts in a bmw seems sinful
