Es la verdad.  A good machinist and a few special tools (like a very low-torque dial torque wrench, a press and a really hot gas grill) required to complete the job.  As well as a lot of confidence (I keep thinking I installed the worm gear, like, one degree off center), as the car turns just a little further right than it does left!).  The rebuild kit can be gotten from Walloth & Nesch or CHS an outfit in Argentina (the former offering a few more parts).  Either should get you a smooth-spinning box.  The Argentine kit was about $350 via a group buy headed up by TraderFord, including shipping.  But there’s a lot of machine work, and unless your machinist has the arcane tools on hand to shave the bushings, you can probably add $150 to his bill for those.  By the time I was done I probably had $650 in the project.  So, if you can find a completely rebuilt box for under $700 + core charge, you may want to consider just buying.

I have one of the group buy rebuild kits and a worn box. The local vintage Porsche shop who has rebuilt similar boxes quoted me 5-10 hours labor @ $145 per hour so I’ll be into it for $1000-1700. Buying a used box for $180 and replacing every two years is looking pretty economical.

Also forgot to mention that it actually made it out into daylight besides a drive to work. Took my Mom to Katie's cars and coffee on Saturday and it was the first time she's been in it with it being drivable since 2002. Also picked up my replacement calipers from Optimal coating in Richmond last weekend. Next project is the other door panel and some misc. engine bay items. 242502599_389207765950694_9211630663015880312_n.jpg

Looks great, actually like the steelies, they look good against the white, is that an Ansa exhaust?

Thanks, yes it is an Ansa @jgerock was kind enough to give me to replace my rusted out one. I like the steelies too, they look nice refinished. Eventually I want to get a little bigger size though when I put the other springs I have on.

Got the calipers on. Brakes feel much better now that they actually work properly. I took the old calipers apart and there was so much rust in the ports and around the pistons nothing was moving. Also Attempted to switch my heater valve around and found the linkage connection is all rounded out so I ordered a rebuild kit from @Forrest_KoogleWerks so I will see how that project goes. Decided to repaint the enamel on my cluster knobs too yesterday which was pretty tedious but turned out ok.

All my slats are epoxied in/on, most with a reinforcement wire in the epoxy.

If you need some spare slats (and @jgerock doesn't have any :D ) PM me.

Cheers,

Ray

Stop reading this! Don't you have anything better to do?? :P

Nice shot from Katie's cars and coffee over the weekend from Mike Bevels and then took it out to Summit Point (on the longest drive it's been on so far). Guess some of my grill slats fell out at some point though :(
