Rear muffler..??

Hey all...

 

We need to replace the rear 'muffler?' on our '02...

 

Anything special, or just go to a muffler shop..??

 

Looking for advice here...

Just had my exhaust worked over by local Guru. He spent almost three hours fitting stuff and fabing pieces.  $250.

 

The pipes were banging on the cross member, etc...he also had a genuine BMW exhaust tip

 

He did an exhaust on my 64 MGB last year.

You can order rear from many sources. If it ere me I would order the “right” part and have a shop install. Just wary of avg shop getting the correct 45 year old part

Yeah normal mufflers and piping for the 2002 available from parts geek. Cheap too.

Meh. I'd say order it yourself from your fav. vendor and do it in the driveway, it's an easy 30 minute job.

Do you have late model center exit or earlier side exit? Rock auto has early ones for $81.

I know y'all are gonna laugh, but Midas installed a rear muffler on my '73 back (I think) about 1986 or so...and it's still doing just fine.  Fit perfectly (no banging), the mounting brackets were correctly placed etc.  Still has a lot of its original paint!  I've replaced the plastic clips and rubber hangers several times due to wear, but the muffler just keeps truckin'.  In the interests of full disclosure, it hasn't had a salt-laden winter, but does get driven in all other kinds of weather.

 

It'll be fun going back to the Midas shop someday and showing 'em my 30+ year old receipt for their lifetime muffler--unless it outlives me!

Mike, you sound like the old guy driving a Model A in the Midas commercial from long, long ago...  "Howdy Boys!....(as he drives up to the shop; the employees recognize him & grimace...)  It says 'Annabelle' gets a free muffler!...(as he shows them his guarantee...) ...See you again, boys!"  (as he leaves Midas with a great big smile)
