A Milestone For My Car. Odometer About To Reset.

25 years and 50k miles later the inevitable is about to occur.   00000 miles.

I can't speak for the first 17 years of its life but it was still very stock, clean and complete  when I bought it.   I have lots of Orange Car stories but a favourite story I like to tell is lifting   the carpet to inspect the pedal box.   I found a label under the carpet stating "inspected by Helga".   I swear!

I REALLY wish I'd kept every memento and   taken pictures in the early days.    Unfortunately it was just the enjoyment of pampering and driving the car that was important.   Who knew that an orange car would be a desirable collector someday and its history  would be something to talk about.

I've cleaned, rebuilt, repainted or replaced most worn parts of the car over the years and added missing odds and ends that I've learned were on the car when it was new.    Thank you FAQ members.    Although the car looks very nice, it's still a 5-footer, 42 year old car with some blemishes giving away her age.

So...what to do in the next 25 years?   I plan to have  a complete engine and Kfish rebuild, soon!  Head has never been off AFAIK, and compression is 130+/- across all cylinders.  I believe I'd get more snap and better gas mileage if the  compression was higher.    I think she deserves it.     Oh yeah,  a new 2-piece dash would be nice.

Time to go for a drive and accept the inevitable reset.

Cheers,

Paul

Paul I don't think I've seen your car pics before. Lovely!

I'd suggest having someone restitch the dash. I have a 2 piece done like that...post-9251-0-41265600-1437772332_thumb.jp

I really like the stitched dash, but somehow I would rather have a restored dash or a new one (good luck).  In the back of my mind I think about Just Dashes and $1700 for a restoration.  Not on the top of my priority list though.

Thanks for the comments, guys, I try to stay ahead of deterioration.  Not always successfully.  It seems there is always something to do.

Way to go on your first rollover.

I know there are several folks on the board with over 300k on their cars...

Ludwig's at 249k about to hit the quarter million mark; Wolfgang has only 224k even though he's 4 years older.  The difference? Ludwig has the 5 speed so gets all the long trips.
