Rear Spring Trouble (Ie Stage 2 Springs & Bilstein Sports)

Have searched extensively, not much info for the rear springs.

I have IE stage 2 springs and Billy sports.

I remember some time ago reading that these struts have a built in bump stop, can anyone clarify?

I understand that shorten springs sit a little funny, but these look terrible.

I have tied my front springs to the cup via safety wire, worked a treat. Is there a similar solution to the rear?

that looks perfectly normal to me.  lines up when suspension is compressed.

+1  I think the spring is shorter so it looks funny like that.  Mine did

Just align the rubber stops when lowering it slowly and you should be ok :)

compress the swingarm with a jack and see if it center in. You gotta use a pry bar or something to get the spring over that little lip

Agreed. I have Stage 2s as well. No problems, but they do sit like that when the car is jacked up. Just lower it slowly to make sure the spring sits on there correctly when the car is on the ground.

Also, make sure that the lower spring pad is aligned with the little bump on the trailing arm and the upper spring end it aligned with the upper spring pad.  The upper spring pad/perch can freely move around to align with the end of the spring.

I have IE 2s with Billy Sports and still cut 1 1/4 coils.  So mine floats until I nearly drop it all the way down.

What are people using as far as limiting straps go? It would suck to hit a pothole and have your spring come out from it's perch.

None, even when hitting a pothole.  Goodness knows I've hit plenty personally, they're simply not needed in this case.  If you find me someone who has (even in an accident) and I'll buy them a case of their favorite beverage.

Now on a race car its nice to have a limiting strap to keep the springs in place while on the lift (in this case a set of IE adjustable rears).

Thanks for that Andrew...

IMHO, if at full droop the spring isn't securely in place, a limiting strap is needed. If only for the peace of mind ;)

like andrew said....none.  only time it will be full droop is if you are on lift or get fully airborne.  remember there is an anti-sway bar in there connecting the two sides.  one side of the axle will not be able to droop far enough for the spring to be loose if the other side is loaded.  this applies to front and rear of car.  no issue with potholes.....

of course the best solution is to use shocks with the correct travel for the suspension/springs you have.  with shorter springs you do not need the long travel of street shocks.

This still seems unclear. Thats one for, and one without the stops.

Anyone else? I remember maybe c.d. saying you don't?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
