  1. I recently sold mine to someone who may be reproducing them.
  2. And it's finally out - delayed a bit due to Omicron. Couldn't get the Manifold or down pipe off while in the car so pulled it all as one. They are off now!
  3. Install the original rebuilt engine into my Tii. Clean up the engine bay while It’s empty. Attend the Vintage Give my garage a thorough cleaning as I hope to be finished with my big projects.
  4. Excellent, you still have that CB?
  5. Pulling the engine tomorrow, took the hood off and radiator out. I can now see the front of the engine and found this on the block just above the water pump.
  6. I went with the solid one from W&N that you linked. I like the feel and am in the 60 plus group.
  7. Thanks Steve, sorry I missed your article, great info there! This is new to me. In your article, you used a picture you took of my block that you took in my garage maybe 5 years ago! Until now I had never heard an explanation. Good information to have for when I go to sell that replacement engine. Now to determine a value, it only has 20K on it.
  8. Bringing this thread back. I was planning on having Paul do my injectors when I got to this point in my engine rebuild. RIP. Any suggestions on where to turn to now?
  9. I am finishing the rebuild of the original engine for my ‘72 Tii and taking the replacement engine out. In 1987, the original owner ordered a new Tii engine from BMW, I wanted to document what had been in the car. The block was cast in 1982 and the head in 1987. I’ve seen previous comments about the replacements that people received being older refurbished engines, this doesn’t seem to be the case. A lot of interesting markings where the VIN would normally be, any ideas on what those mean?
  10. Here's my story as the 3rd owner of my '72 Tii. Original owner had put 187,000 miles on the car. He had installed a 3 gauge package on it and saw that he was loosing oil pressure. A friend who owned a BMW dealership told him that that he could get a new Tii engine built for him cheaper than it may cost to fix it. So in 1987, he installed a new engine. He then installed all of the original bits etc. Started the new engine and the pressure was low. He then changed the oil pressure sender and everything was fine. 15,000 miles later, he parked the car in one of his garages in the '80s until a friend talked him into selling it to him. He never drove it and I was able to buy it 6+ years ago. I was then told that the original owner still had that engine sitting in his garage and he would love to have me pick it up. I did that and it sat in my garage for 6 years. I finally decided to rebuild and install. After the machine shop got done and we looked at the original block, pistons and everything on the head, that engine could have been sprayed off and reinstalled with no problems. So now I have an extra Tii engine built in '87 by BMW with 19,000 miles on it sitting in my garage.
  11. I’m in the process of rebuilding the original engine for my ‘72 Tii. The engine in the car has an E12 head and aluminum intake and runners. I’m going back to the original manifold intake and plastic runners and 121 head. I just took off the aluminum intake and noticed it was a good bit bigger than the one that’s used for the plastic runners, both in length and circumference. What effect does this have?
  12. Steve, I have a new one I won't need. Let me know if you're still looking.
  13. I’ve got one - kind of dirty but I’m sure it would clean up. PM if interested
  14. The radiator works just fine, I replaced it with a W&N high capacity 2002 radiator so the engine bay would look "correct".
  15. I could only find the passenger side trim. 2 holes however. Very straight just a bit dusty.
  16. I don’t know my radiators. This was on my 2002 when I bought it, it’s bigger that a normal 2002 radiator, maybe for a E21? measures 18” x 18” x 1.5”
  17. The interesting thing is that one area of the up spout has been grounded down. Wondering if this was where the BMW embossment was and something went bad with the supply agreement.
  18. I’m in the process of rebuilding the original engine for my ‘72 Tii. When I bought the car it came with a few boxes of parts and the original engine (engine that’s in the car is a Tii engine built by BMW in ‘87 and only has 21,000 miles on it.) In a box is this new water pump still in the bag. Not marked BMW. I don’t know how many miles the pump on the current engine has on it. Do I put this on the rebuilt engine - who made it - does anyone know a history of these pumps? I’m sure the pump has been in the box since the ‘80s.
  19. I know a number of people who’s passion is the process of creating a great restoration. Once it’s done, they want to do another one. They are not content to just sit back and own it, they just have to move on to something else.
  20. He is absolutely a great resource! The PO of my Tii had correspondence with him dating back to the ‘80s and he continued to help me 30+ years later.
  21. David also has a son named David. Not sure if the father is still involved and if the son is still doing the rebuilds. Let us know what the happens after the call.
  22. My WUR was not working correctly and creating issues. David Redszus at Precision Auto in Bensenville, IL took car of mine in 2015 - $325 at that time. He then spent over 1 hour on the phone with me helping to dial everything in while the KF was reset. The PO had used him way back and I have a bunch of articles from back in the day.
  23. And winner said he was prepared to go to $120k +15% for the sunroof!
  24. Considering everything else I had done to the car, I jumped down the rabbit hole. Restored the original seats, not cheap by any means when using correct horse hair pads etc. I was able to get 1 at a decent price, the rest not so much. I really like the way they look. A few weeks ago I had 2 - 7 hour days behind the wheel back and forth to the Legends of the Autobahn show. I had never spent more than a couple hours in the car before. I was shocked at how well they felt, especially for my 6’5” frame.
