I don't see a date on my Blue Book - it came with the car when I bought it. When looking in the bumper and radiator sections, I don't see any big bumper fitting instructions or fan shrouds noted. My book may be pre-1974.
I’m in the process of rebuilding my engine and ordered a new fan. This older thread popped up during searches. I just noticed this in the Blue Book. Did all USA cars have 400mm fans as noted here?
Very sad news indeed. Paul was always so helpful to me even though we had never met. His car was one I used as a standard to meet. All my best to his family and friends.
Same here, I bought a part from him for my engine rebuild, he replied that he was throwing something extra in the box. Sure enough it has become very useful.
A great spirit!
Blunt helped me out. It's not with the other trim parts in the book, instead it's with the gaskets. It's @ 41/25b
Part numbers 51711819817 & 818

That’s what I thought. I ordered it and it ended up being a black piece that is apparently underneath the chrome piece. In addition, it’s apparent that both bags have been opened and then taped shit again with new labels put on. This makes me believe I’m not the first to try to order this part and been disappointed.
These part numbers can be a challenge for me at times using the OEM charts.
I'm trying to find out the correct number for the chrome vertical strip piece that goes over the hinge for the rear quarter window.
Thanks
OMG, you have that right! In my business the whole supply chain for every part is totally messed up. Folks who were paying $2,000 for a container are now looking at $14,000. It’s insane.
I’m joining the delay crowd. Ordered last week and had a duty notice sent on Sat for $42. I paid that on Sat. At the time it said Wed delivery. Today I was sent another “exception” notice that there is a delay and to stay tuned in.
Drove it home from the The Legends of the Autobahn East in Hilton Head through the back country roads in Georgia. These cars ROCK! I’m now very comfortable just hammering it and cruising at 75+ on the long open stretches. Ran like a top, put 700 miles on it over the weekend and averaged 25mpg. Met a lot of great folks from this group and others. BMW owners are awesome! Just got done cleaning all the bugs off the front end before I put it bed.
Thanks!! Will see you in the AM. Was a lot of fun and getting the debrief at the brewery was fantastic. This was my first judged show and it was interesting to find out what they look for and how to improve things. Amazing folks including finally getting to meet @Mike Self @HBChris @adawil2002 @Stevenola
