  1. Having the breather hose stopped up will definitely cause problems like you are having. KC
  2. To be honest you car looks better then mine when I got it... Now its time to get wrenching. A large majority of repairs on a 2002 can be done by a beginner and there are a lot of knowledgeable folks on this forum that will help out as long as you provide in depth details about the problem... Pics help out a lot too. Here is a link to the transmission shifter mount bushings mentioned earlier. pretty easy but messy job. Just noticed that the link below incorrectly say 1 per car! You will need 2. http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=wyrzf0v4x0ehzv2lps0n4n55&makeid=800003@BMW&modelid=1010822@2002&year=1976&cid=33@Transmission/Transaxle%20System&gid=11084@Shift%20Tower%20Mount For the oil issue I would start with an oil change and try running 20W 50 oil and use a good mahle brand oil filter. In the meantime I would either reconnect the oil breather or place the hose into a catch can to collect the vaporized oil and get a feel for how much is actually coming out. Here is a post mentioning a similar problem: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,326898/highlight,catch/ Good Luck! KC
  3. I bought a few of these from Mouser (I think...) they are great because they only require a drill bit to install. I paid around $20 for 3 a few years ago... http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Waterproof-Panel-Mount-Female/dp/B000AA85BG I have a double stack one in my console now. Becasue it is square it was a real pain to install! HTH, KC
  4. Max, here's my observations... 4 speed with a 3.45 diff makes for a really nice driving car. A good example is J Maxson's car (Paul's Emily) was pretty well transformed when the 3.64 was pulled and replaced with a custom 3.45 lsd. Makes the car much more drivable and keeps the revs down on the highway to make the longer trips more comfortable. Requires minimal modification outside of spacers or swapped CVs and half shafts from a 320, that is if you use a 3.45 from a 323 or have one built. Mark Raspi was so impressed with the 3.45 in Emily that he's sourced one for one of his cars! I have a 5 speed in my car and love it, although I rarely use 5th gear unless I'm cruising down the highway. I'm not one to take too many long trips but when I do I'm quite happy to have the 5 speed. Get ready for more snow!!!! KC
  5. Thanks John, The horn button arrived today and it is definitely a BWA. KC
  6. need to drill 2 holes for screws up by the windshield and may have to monkey with the heater controls if the car has the earlier heater setup. Not too difficult. The dash in my 73tii is a one piece and it only required bending 2 tabs and drilling 2 holes. KC
  7. Curt's post matches what I've always done on my tii's. I sometimes give the gas a quick tap on the 2nd or 3rd turnover if I'm in a hurry and it will fire right up. Before starting the car again after the 1-2hr time period pull the boot off of the throttlebody and see if it is full of fuel as you may have a cold start injector that is having bladder problems. You may also want to try disconecting the cold start injector (on a seperate attempt) before starting (after waiting) to see if that helps. This technique may not make a difference if the cold start injector is dribbling due to it being worn out. KC
  8. I'll be there with my sears poncho like old times... KC
  9. Looks like a real nice ride! Its an early control arm. Not sure when they switched over to the newer beefier style though. KC
  10. Whats happening Dennis? I'm down for some of the wacky seals and some other assorted bits! Now my question for you is what do you need? Hit me up on gmail or the work mail. Later, KC
  11. Bipmer, shoot me an email kcdonahue@gmail.com KC
  12. I agree.... RIMSPOKE has been a huge contributor to this site for years. While you may not agree with me I feel that RIMSPOKE (note the case...) has been incredibly helpful and has offered his time and advise for free and his custom made 02 parts at great prices for years. I'm proud to point out his custom made parts on my tii... BTW... Rim you are one hell of a luthier! But what does a lowly bass player know. KC
  13. The title got me to read this post... I just sent the manual to both of you. Unfortunately it is too large for the forum to handle. If anyone else needs this manual I can set up a rapidshare download for it. Just let me know. Or just email me through the forum. KC
  14. Jim, I used some teflon washers on my tii a few years ago to take out some of the slop. It's not perfect but it helped. KC
  15. No sweat Bro... Life gets in the way of fun all too often! KC
  16. Jason, Congrats on the new youngin! I have the same or at least similar bars on my tii. They are a bit of a tough fit. I also had to mount the front of the bar down so it sticks below the valence rather then up against the valence like the stock sways. When I put mine on I had to bend the tow hooks and carefully pry the valence out to slide them in.
  17. Yup... even KC will say it. Dan is the man on then two wheeled thangs... (and the carbs attached to them). KC. Dan you still need a booster?
  18. Dumb ass running from police meets parked tii...
  19. They are out there, but I do not think they were a factory piece... More like a Works setup towards the late 70's in Europe. I'm pretty sure they are similar to the pump used on the Ford Capri 2600 so they are not physically set up like the one on the tii. If you can get a hold of setup that will fit a gti it is worth quite a bit, likely much more then one from a 2002tii. KC
  20. Heck... Two gallons of 2-propanol alcohol and about 10 cans of SEM landau black and you should be good to go... If nothing else the interior will be black and you will have one hell of a headache. KC
  21. Tom, I bought the 6-pin din connector from Digikey for about $1. If you have a Blaupunkt that is stereo (mine is mono) an 8 pin din connector is needed. I also installed a switch on mine to cut off the Aux input. Links I found helpful: http://users.skynet.be/antique.autoradio/Blaupunkt/Blaup-Infos-Techn/Blaup-InfosTechn-MP3_2.htm http://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/showthread.php?t=47576 http://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/showthread.php?t=37599 KC
  22. Tom, I just made one up for my Frankfurt a few weeks ago. What do you need to know? I can post pics and details tonight when I get home from work. KC
  23. Steve and Rob, Is it possible to change the "search previous" selection on the forum search page to default to the "Search topic title and message text" rather than the "Search message title only" that it currently is set to? There are way more pertinent details in the message body then in the title... Maybe this change will help alleviate some the problems that some folks have when it come to doing a search. KC
