  1. Both of my cars (68 2002 & 71 1600) have clear glass, I don't think I've ever really thought about life with the slight green tint, there is nothing wrong with adding it if you prefer the look. If you want to go this route, lots of folks stockpile glass because it's hard to ship/sell, post a WTB advert and maybe you can find someone in your area. I have a partial unheated kit from a 72 minus one door glass and a front windscreen if you are interested.
  2. thanks all for the help! ShermanM has sourced a used replacement for me and I think this will be the most trouble free route. The car I'm working on is a 76 with a 74 tii transplant done a long time ago, so yes, I'm sure that the fitting was removed at some point, crimson and clover over and over and became stripped.
  3. Hi Daron, thanks for checking on the trim, what are you asking for this piece? It would probably ship best in a poster tube or similar.
  4. Looking for NOS or shiny used to replace a damaged piece on my project car. #4 Left rear moulding 51 13 5 476 175
  5. First off, I borrowed the image below from a previous CD post, so thanks CD in advance. I'm working on a tii and chased a small oil leak to the filter housing oil hose outlet. I purchased a new line, bolts and all washers and planned to reuse the fitting as it is NLA. I've now figured out why the PO used a rubber gasket, the threads are stripped on the housing and won't bite with the thickness of the new stock washer. Do I find a used tii housing or take this one off and have a machine shop try and fix it? Thanks for any advice. Oh and BTW, the price of the new oil line that used to be ~$10 is now listing at $57.48 (PN 11-42-1-254-047) Ouch.
  6. Daniel Stern Lighting suggested a 6W bulb to give the city lights some additional oomph, here is a shot of my 68 at dusk with the 6W installed. They are reasonably bright but I don't think they'd do much during the day.
  7. I've had my fingers crossed for you....the ownership story on your car is absolutely wonderful. Congrats and keep the pictures coming! Ben
  8. Looking for set of interesting 15" x 6" 4x100 wheels. Thanks, Ben
  9. I have early cars, but for daily driving duty, I'd find a 74-76, you'll appreciate the larger bumpers, easier seatbelts, and possibly even AC. Daily drivers will suffer some wear and tear, the bodywork on an early car is disposable due to the jewelry like bumpers. On the other hand, if you find a nice 69, buy it and try to keep it nice as they are only going up in value! Ben
  10. Looking for a decent driver quality pair of stainless rocker trim email or reply here if you have a set. Thanks, Ben
  11. Looking for a decent pair of these window latches from a 74-76 email or reply here if you have a set. Thanks, Ben
  12. how much for the grille badge and center kidney grill?
  13. Cool, that's a $500 golden nugget! I lucked into this NOS early tank in a parts haul out of Plymouth Michigan a few years ago, it's currently providing the drink to my 68!
  14. I thought they'd bring $800 so I bowed out hoping that someone who really needed them got a fair price--I do hope it was one of the FAQers.
  15. This is my car, please let me know if you have any questions or need another shot: Old Salem, NC, 2011
  16. I second this...on occasion my 1600 pukes out, and I pop the idle jet out and clean it with solvent and it fixes it everytime. Don't give up!
  17. My 1600 has original Nevada paint; I took it to a pro and had them lightly wetsand some horizontal environmental issues and then clean/polish the balance before applying a high grade wax. If you decide to do this yourself, be careful polishing around the trunk, hood and roof creases as the paint is now thinnest there. For maintenance, I don't wash the car unless it happens to get rained on but rather dust, speedshine and then apply more Pinnacle Sovereign carnauba solid wax.
  18. This is all correct. I used a new trunk floor from BMW in my 68 restoration project but had a new old stock gas tank. Two, possibly three of the passenger side holes do not line up. I plugged the extras, drilled new ones and used stainless steel bolts and nuts to secure. Since only one trunk floor is available, this is really the only choice. If you wanted to go crazy you could weld nuts to the newly drilled holes on the bottom so it matched, but how often are you standing below your gastank looking up?
  19. I know a guy who has a 1796 out west that he bought for his 16 year old daughter, but she can't drive a manual, so he's selling it cheap. No title.
  20. Carfaxes wont work on the non 17 digit VINs so you really need to look at the laws in your state, and the state the car was last registered before you make any moves. If it was easy to get a title, owner #1 would have done it before selling to #2. I have no idea if police have a method of searching non 17 digit VINs. Unless the car is amazing and very cheap or you plan to use it for parts, I'd pass as I can't imagine it's worth the trouble you will encounter.
  21. The BMAs in your example picture do look painted and if so, the owner probably blasted them, etch primed, painted them 100% silver and then possibly covered them with a sticky film or some other masking material and cut out the areas to be painted black with an exacto knife, then shot the innards black. They could have been hand painted too, but it would be a real non-fun job I would imagine. I think these wheels, when new, were probably painted black and then had the face machined down and topcoated with clear. I've never had a set of these so I can't be sure.
  22. More specifically, it's a June 1976 production 06/1976 114 2002 Sedan M10 USA Left hand drive Manual.
  23. I found a used factory rebuilt engine from a parts stash for short coin, took a chance and had it installed for ~8 to 10 labor hours by my local vintage BMW shop. Brandspankingnew engines are still available from any BMW dealer and you have a warranty. A little more expensive on average but you have zero hassles. Part# 11 00 1 261 408
  24. Great. I'm glad all of the FAQers are bidding against each other. I'll say it was super exciting to hold onto that opening bid for a few hours.
