  1. Looks great! Let us know if you ever head downstate. The Cincy based Rivertown Gearbusters Facebook group has a few 02 drives per year and HoosierBmw.com has some club events too. Windy City Vintagefest is in Sept each year in Vernon Hills, IL. Ben
  2. In the midwest, we call that a sunburn. Real rust is when you can retrieve items from your trunk through your quarter panels!
  3. If they don't fit, would you like to sell them to me? I have 13x5 rear opel wheels on my car with the E21 drums and they fit. You'll have to find someone else to answer for the fronts but I suspect they will clear OK. -=Ben
  4. There are a few like minded 02 enthusiasts down the road here in the Indy area...and the Hoosier Chapter did a "Vintage BMW" picnic in September. If you are on Facebook, please join the Hoosier BMW group page, we would love to learn more about your project. Ben
  5. Al, have you made a kit like this before?
  6. Looks good and you win style points for "Dunkelrot"
  7. I think they started with 057 and then changed it to New Polaris 060. I don't know about a third. Here is a post of mine from 2006 on the topic: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,0/page,viewtopic/t,270719
  8. Looks a little large, but might be right for someone out there: http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp Clearance $ 282.48 New ! From England, Scorpion stainless steel performance exhaust systems have been sought after by tuners the world over. Now these free-flow, stainless steel systems are available in the U.S. from Bavarian Autosport! They have been engineered to deliver a horsepower boost yet not be quite as loud as other free-flow systems. And they're built to last using the best 304 stainless steel. - TUV certified
  9. Like many here, I used to read Roundel cover to cover the day it arrived, then stow it away in chronological order for safe keeping. These days, I start from the back and read Mike S, Rob, Tech, Mark, Jenny, Joe, scan for anything vintage looking and then life gets in the way and I skip most of the rest. I guess I'm part of the island of misfit BMW owners. I want to read stories about the best new and vintage BMWs out there and the owners who keep them warm and safe. So Roundel, if you are listening please trim the fat, but keep the goodguys and girls--oh, and see if you can't get one of those 6 page full color ads from Weathertech. That should help keep the lights on for awhile. Or, you can just continue on reformatting Roundel to try and deliver that elusive key demographic of "18-34 year old males who also have money for a brand new X5 M" I imagine it would look something like this:
  10. Cool Pics. I also photograph everything I own and try to collect a sales brochure too. Someday when I'm super old and gray, it will be fun to look at them and remember what it was like to actually drive the car yourself.
  11. Maybe BimmerMag needs an .02 Cents columnist?
  12. I installed a starter from an M30 Big 6. You think the S14 turns an M10 over quick....! Pow!
  13. What year is your car? The early cars through about 71 had a single binder manual, but it was expanded to 2 "bands" about the time the tii cars appeared. I have a pair of late manuals available with many nice notations for tiis that I would consider selling.
  14. Looking to buy a VERONA Reproduction Paint Sticker if anyone has a spare. Thank you, Ben
  15. Can you send me a price on the complete Jack Assembly, lug wrench and spare tire hold down? mobiletradition a - t GM ai L Also, can you provide more information on the wheels and tires? Brand? Width? Tire Size & Age? Any wheel Offset numbers? ET "?" Thank you
  16. Howdy, the stereo version of a Becker or Blaupunkt is a little harder to locate for early cars as most of the dealer installed kits seemed to be mono speaker units. If you can't find anything here, look on ebay for a Becker Europa Stereo from a 70's Mercedes. And as an FYI, either of these brands will accept a DIN plug for an aux input. I have a Europa Mono in my 1600 and a Blaupunkt Stereo in my 2002 and the Aux inputs are very nice for long trips!
  17. Looking for spare relay holder (the black plastic part that slides into carrier shown below) - if anyone has an old parts wiring harness, I could use this plastic holder to add a relay for my project car:
  18. If your child is still in a rear facing seat, you could probably use a non-inertia reel rear seatbelt out of a Pre 71 model, and install it using the two center most mounting bolts where the stock seatbelts bolt to the pan. I think this would be best, but you could also fabricate some brackets/plates to allow you to use the LATCH system. If you are using a front facing seat (you will someday anyway) you could drill a hole in the rear window shelf and add a bracket with lots of big washers underneath for the tether. I had a Honda Accord once that came with a special bolt/bracket that could be installed in one of three positions in the rear shelf (in reinforced nuts) for this purpose. If you install the seat in on either side there is a reinforced mounting nut on both the right and left side you could also use. I'm to the point now where my kids are still in backless boosters but I have no rear shoulder belt. BlueDevils AL here on the FAQ sold me a kit to add rear inertia sholder belts but I haven't installed them yet.
  19. Like many who have posted above, Mark Preisendorf has at this point kindly swindled us either out of money sent as prepay, or radiator cores. Although it appears it was done unintentionally, If Mark ever wants to get back into the parts business, he needs to take care of the people who he has left hanging and restore his credibility. I sent Mark the radiator out of my survivor certified 71 1600 in July for a 3 row rebuild after winning a 50% off certificate at Mid-America 02 Fest 2012. I did not send money in advance but he did remark after examining my core that it was the nicest he had ever seen. Due to the manufacturing delays I was forced to find a used $30 radiator and then had to pay $100 to get it repaired so I could use my car. At this point, I'm out the beautiful core, $30 in fedex shipping, $130 for the replacement radiator and my time, calling, emailing, texting with no reply from Mark. I doubt it would do any good, but I am planning to send a Fedex letter to Mark's home in Castro Valley CA with a pre-paid shipping label and ask that he send back my core, no questions asked.
  20. Thanks for the replies/offers everyone. My scope has creaped in some other maintenance areas of the project, so I'm holding off on any wheel/tire changes for now. Will re-post later if my needs change. Thanks again, Ben
  21. I'd like to have an original paper "inspection" sticker for my 71 1600, it's the only thing missing under the hood. I have a picture of one from a 70, maybe I can find someone to reproduce them? I'd also like to have every vintage aftermarket 13" wheel ever fitted to an 02, and endless supply of good 185/70/13 tires and a tire changing and balancing machine.
  22. WTB - Late Defroster Switch, push/pull like this: Please email or reply here w/ cost including US shipping. Thanks!
  23. All belt line trim is available New, but a complete set is expensive. I'm just replacing a dented piece so good used is what I was looking for. Check out realoem.com or penskeparts.com -- either will allow you to search on category and part umber. If a part is NLA, it will say so. Good luck!
