1/4 Coaxial cable= windshield lockstrip

can I use the above 1/4 coaxial cable to temporally substitute for the lockstrips. Pardon my ghetto solution. My car has brand new gaskets everywhere, but the PO sadly never finished the job...

Many glass places that have replaced VW windows have the same lock strip. You may be able to source locally and not have to use the coaxial cable which is big if I am thinking of typical catv cable.

if 1/4 inch is the correct size, then yes you can...it should work fine...if it's not the right size, visit home depot and find a stranded electrical wire that fits....

you can get a green or red locking strip at home depot for a couple of bucks....

even purple or yellow...maybe orange or black

7mm or 8mm spark plug wire is rumored to work, also. I would suggest making this very temporary for safety's sake. The windshield is engineered to pop out under specific impact loads (Wear those seat belts!). There's no telling what impact it can take with some other lock strip in there.

Agreed. They're cheap and available at the dealer still.

I got a set of black "Turbo" ones off ebay (seriously! BMW Part # and all!) and even those were only like $35 for the front and back.

the black turbo inserts are cheaper than the silver ones

"RG 6" is the bigger stuff, and it works even better.

And that stoopid lockstrip, that used to be $11, is now as much as

a new freekin gasket! That's just not right.

If you like the blacked out look, save yourself the $90 that 2 pieces of it

will set you back, and be happy.

The crap doesn't even last 10 years, either- Jenn's is looking pretty poo...
