carefully read the story and lookat the attached pictures (click on "more" on the story page), the story said the BMW that was hit (and held the victim) was pushed into another (parked) car. The '02 in the pix was all by itself, and one of the pictures shows what looks like the front of a black E36 (hood up) wedged in with several other cars--including the white Buick that the article says caused the accident--and very well burned.

The '02 appears to have little burn damage to the pax compartment, and the story indicates the driver was pulled out of "a burning car" and died at the scene.

From the article

Michael Gamble, who was inside the nearby Bar On Castro, rushed outside and saw a homeless man, identified only as Dane, jump into the BMW and try to pull the driver out. A half dozen people emerged from the bar and other businesses and tried to help.

"We came out with fire extinguishers to keep the fire away,'' Gamble said. "We didn't realize the gas was flowing down the street. ...Dane got him halfway out, and then we had to come back with more fire extinguishers. We pulled him all the way out and got him into an alleyway.

"You're watching somebody die. Who wants to see somebody die?''

By then, the first fire crews were arriving. An off-duty firefighter tried to revive the man, but the victim died at the scene, said Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge.

The 2002 is at the far left end of all the destruction. It has burn damage to the rear of the car, but I think it would have taken more than a moment for the fire to reach the car from the original point of impact. I would guess any dead BMW owner would be in the black BMW near the center of destruction. The news story is confusing to say the least. What happened to the nut who caused the calamity??

From the live coverage and still photos with captions, it seems like the person that died was from the 02. In the last few seconds of the live footage, you can see the windshield wipers on the 02 on. Which I assume that the car was on. Regardless of who the victim was, very tragic. R.I.P.

ran a red light and caused this havoc, I sincerely hope the idiot has the whole book thrown at them, and that the family of the person who died brings a wrongful death lawsuit as well (if possible).

I've lost track of the number of times recently that I've watched people blow through intersections 2, 3, or 4 seconds after a light's turned red - usually at speeds well above the posted limit. Dimwits.

the '02 as, from the pics, the fire marks are right where the moto is. The moto could have five gallons, which would run down the hill burning setting other car's tires on fire. Also, from the pics, I can't figure out how a car at either intersection could end-up in the middle of the block that far from either intersection. Is there an alley the Buick came out of and hit the '02? They mention dragging the '02 owner into an alley by the '02. I don't think the '02 leaked any fuel.
