Boo-ya.

The major benefit to not being married is that I dont get in trouble when I pull stunts like this...

(yes, down there to the lower-left, next to my razor... thats the fuse block.)

couple of pics of todays progress. i fought with the subframe for 2 hours and after i finally got it in i realized the reason it wouldnt go was my floors are sloped because i have floor drains and i think it was tweaked just a little and wouldnt allow all the holes to line up. but i finally got it in after leveling the car.

then i ran the power cable thru the firewall and finalized that. i mounted the junction block under the dash to reduce clutter under the hood. i can also draw power for relays etc cleanly this way

i spent 12 hours in the garage yesterday and after dinner ill be out there till i fall alsleep. the wife is gone for 5 days and i will only leave the garage to pick up more parts

haha get it started?? no way dude. im not planning on it running till next spring. yes, my dad is out here everyday. he por 15'd all the inner door mechanisms and hes waxing all the inner parts of the car that normally dont get done like inner fenders, door jambs, core supports etc etc.

hes still kinda weak so hes only good for 3 or 4 hours but he loves coming out here working on it and hes really good at what he does so that helps not having to worry about what hes doing. ill stretch this into months for sure. i want something to do over the winter.

not too much progress in the last 2 days because my wife came home but me and my dad managed to finish the trunk boards and side panels today. thanks again to dukerimmer for the side patterns. im not sure what ill cover them in yet. my dad polyurethaned them after we cut them. here he is

reg002.jpg

i mocked up my super oscars on the front and fabbed up adjustable stays to keep them from flopping around. i actually just modified some cibie stabilizers to go thru the grille and attach to the tray panel thingy under the hood. they should be pretty unoticable when im done and didnt require any changes to the grille

reg004.jpg

reg005.jpg

im not sure whether ill paint them black or chrome plate them. they have chrome bezels now and im leaning towards plating the entire lamps

hmmmm maybe i should have done pergo???

Great work as usual... Do you have rubber strips down the edges of the overriders on the bumper bar where they mount on the main horizontal sections?

Are you not going to cover the boards in the back in a similar style to the original grey? This is something I have been toying with replacing in the near future.

Good to see your dad is livingstong too!

those overiders you see are only on there to mock up my lights. i will throw them in the trash when i find some euro models. i just wanted to space the lights properly. and then ill install the new synthetic strips youre talking about. i havent decided on a covering yet. i asked my dad to seal them to keep them from absorbing moisture but they will either get carpet or vinyl of some sort.

my dads a trooper man, he refuses to quit. hes a lesson in determination for sure. he continues to improve each day but its a long process. thanks todd

Thanks for that info mate... I am just looking at options for the rubber, was going to do an esty and see if I can find something local to get me by as I doubt it is something they have in stock here.

What wood did you use for the truck boards?

today i covered my trunk and side boards and installed fuel lines after boring thru the floor and installing grommets. i chose to run both the fuel and return lines under the car. heres a couple pics.

i laid the vinyl out in the sun for a while to get rid of the wrinkles. then used 3M #77 spray adhesive. that stuff is awesome

trunk004.jpg

here they are in place. its not original vinyl but it looks pretty decent

trunk013.jpg

heres how i opted to run the fuel lines. i wanted the trunk as clutter free as possible and didnt want to look at that return line

Hadn't checked out your blog recently and I just did. Great progress!

Those Super Oscars are nice. I have a brand new set of Hella 1000's which I stashed away about 15 years ago. I might use them on my car if I decide to install the front bumper.

Glad to see that your Dad is doing better!

Best,

Harry

Sweet... I have to make those same boards and cover them too... what is the go with your fuel tank? Is that a Tii tank? I dont have that brass recessed section in mine? Are they closed off anyway?

Surely you cant be too far off turning it over!?!

I got some pics to upload too... I know you like to see where I'm at :-)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
