Scrounging parts in a CA salvage yard, I was warned about black widow spiders that liked to nest in trunks.  Sure enough, I spotted a couple.  But when I was dismantling my '48 Fiat Topolino, I found a 1905 Belgian 10 centime coin under the floor mats.  I know the car was imported by an AF guy in the early 50s, so I suspect he either bought it in Belgium or the Netherlands (it had Englebert tires and Phillips light bulbs) or at least visited there.

Best thing I ever found in a car (my 73) was a 14k gold charm--twenty years after buying the car I accidentally ran into the original owner--the charm was his wife's, a gift for being a bridesmaid.  Much to his surprise, I still had it and returned it to him (who throws away 14k gold?)

There was something of a rodent's nest on the frame rail near the pedal box.  (note the peanut shell)

What I didn't expect to find was a (VDO labeled) washer bottle cap and a Craftsman screwdriver.

I thought the screwdriver was mine until I cleaned it off :D

So, over the years I've found some typical, unusual and downright interesting stuff in the fun cars I acquired. Some highlights:

-Very nice Snap-on angled pick and crows foot wrench and beautiful older Snap on 1/4" mini ratchet

-Massive, fully insulated flat blade screwdriver wedged in the frame of a French spec diesel Defender I imported

-spinning lure from ashtray of same Defender, managed to stick myself w/ that, not up to barb though

-Body Glove (remember them?) CD case with ABBA, Milli Vanilli (yes, really), REM and dance CD's, and....

...tucked in the passenger seat springs of the BMW, which was supposedly owned by an older Gent, this zip-loc bag with a bar of soap from a bar in Costa Rica, couple floss picks, a few aspirin, one Viagra and one Lifestyles condom.   He left me his Friday FunPac!  I keep it in the car, it's part of the history.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
