Trunk bins - what's up with everyone?

PS. As far as the evap tank in the trunk, no, it will not be compatible, I removed mine.

And yes, pricey. It takes the better part of a week to make one. Plus, mould maintenance, etc.

So, not something you can just crank out even if you have the mould.

If you have ever worked at fibreglassing, you know what I am talking about.

If it could fit in my trunk with the expansion tank I would gladly buy one.

Some have said that to install it you simply remove the tank and then reinstall the tank once the bin is in and it works fine. Others have said that it won’t work at all with the expansion tank mounted in its proper place.

What’s the final word?

The price is $385 + $50 shipping CONUS. If less, you will be gladly refunded the difference.

My friend has 2 White and 2 Vinyl in his warehouse.

It will fit with the expansion tank AFAIK, but no warranties if you have to remove and then reinstall

or it will not fit at all.

"What’s the final word? " No idea...

Is the expansion tank a must?

I have no way of checking as mine is a Euro version.

Maybe some kind soul can chime in.

Thank you.

What’s the difference between the white and the vinyl?  It sounds like a color and a material?

I don’t have the evap part drama.

Hello Scott, Both are cast in the colors mentioned.

The Vinyl color is an EXACT replica shade of an OEM bin.

The White one is just that , white, not too bright, a bit of flattening agent included in the shade.

The photos will give you a good approximation, please look in previous post.

I've purchased 2 units from Alberto and another 2 units from out of europe. Both sets are repops. I think Alberto's are slightly stronger material. Cost is higher with Alberto but they are in the states which is a small bonus.

I wouldn't say one is better than the other in terms of overall transaction quality.

Danco, thank you for the kind words, and of course being repops they are fibreglass, and much stronger than BMW used to make with their giant vacu-form machine.

Not very long lasting, but cheap.

I am not ashamed to say mine are better, having seen side to side both items.

We put more love in ours...just kidding :). They are both great, but mine are in the USA.

Big advantage.

Another option might be to use a heat gun on the expansion tank and melt a dent in the underside to clear the bin.

I removed that plastic tank and ran the vent line straight to the air cleaner.  I am not aware of any problems associated with not using it.  But then, I am not trying to impress any Concours d'Elegance judges.  :)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
