Front fender tabs

That car is the epitome of a polished turd.

Who did you buy it from?

I suggest returning it for a refund, or scrapping it. Yes, I'm serious.

This is what the area you depicted should look like.

I'm not sure if it was polished, Ray, but it certainly was squirted.

It's hard to tell from your pics, Russ, but it sorta just looks like they

painted over flaking paint and all.  From the fitment, and from a few wavers,

the car might have been hit hard in the LF- or it could just be bad prep, as Ray says.

Honestly, if it was mine, I'd just keep the hood closed.  It's quite hard to

get the fenders off with all the goop, and it's quite likely you'll have to repaint

the front edges of them where they join to the nose.

You COULD strip off the goop where it's not

exposed when the hood is open, then do an underhood repaint of that.

Just that side? probably has everything to do with this:

You did after all, have a rodent housing complex up there.

Little bastards, their piss dissolves paint, eats steel and the nest debris keeps it wet and in direct contact with the metal.

Prepare yourself for what lies under that fender.

Sorry.

Whoever sold you that car probably has a full time job scamming old, vulnerable grannies out of their life savings.

So... bad aftermarket fender slapped on over the crud underneath.

Plan then, ( and please correct me if I’m wrong ).

1. strip car, including interior, gas tank, hood, trunk, fenders, glass, bumpers, engine and tranny.

2. place body in rotisserie.

3. do it right.

I think that about covers it.

oh yea!
4. plan on spending more money than car is worth....

cant wait! Sounds like fun

Hey Ray or anyone,

What is the screw hole behind the tab for?

2. Dip entire body in caustic solution hot tank to dissolve all rust, paint and gunk. See what's left.

That sounded a bit harsh to say to someone posting first pictures of his new car, but then I checked the earlier posts and almost have to agree. Wouldn't go to scrapping it yet but it is quite a project. Incredible to see someone wasting good paint and atleast some effort to cover all that!

The fitment on the rest of the fender on both sides is OK, the tab looks original on the passenger side.

I wonder if I go new OEM fender or find a cheap OEM used fender that may be damaged but has a properly formed tab,  cut off the OEM and weld it onto this fender?  Any suggestions here would be appreciated.

Yep :)

The inner fender joints at the nose are suspect as well (as well as Russ's previous post issues).

Unless it was a private seller, or maybe even not, failure to disclose the seller is a disservice to the community.

It will be cheaper in the long run to find a good shell and transplant the drivetrain into it.

My $0.02.

The sellers name was Carlos Castro from Vineland, NJ.  He said the car was a single owner from Cape may that had it stored for years in a shed.  From all the pictures it looked ok, and it ran.  I missed out on two others in my price range and this looked good enough to put the money down, so I'm not too bummed.  It is more of a project than I had expected....

I'm only now finding the goodies after taking out the interior and carpet.  The rest of the car is actually pretty solid.  I imagine the front was exposed to the climate.  I do know the rockers have been replaced, and there is some fresh metal between the firewall and the drivers upright portion of the floorboard.  I plan on getting it up on the lift next week and will post some better pictures.

Chin up everyone. ?
