Great post, glad to hear you found the right shop. The car looks fantastic!

As with many cars, takes some tweaking to do it right. And unless a shop can dedicate fixed blocks of time to tuning, there is a lot of context switching (i.e., wasted time) on the road to getting there.

I know a guy that had a 320i turbo with the k-jetronic fuel injection and he had about 300hp to the rear wheels running 10 psi of boost on a old school solid bearing Ray-Jay turbo with very basic computer and 2 sets of 4 injectors and that was back in the late 80s. It was tuned by Mr. Hardey of Hardey & Beck in Berkeley.

Just a thought; you might call Dave Redszus at Precision Automotive to see if he has experience with the pierburg injection systems and will be able to help you with servicing and tuning. Or recommend someone who does.

It's running right -- for now? -- so I'm not messing with anything.  If it deteriorates both suggestions may prove helpful.  Thanks!

I remember when you posted something about this car in the past. I loved it then and I love it now.

Totally understand your regrets, beautiful car.

What is the difference between a B7 & a B9 of the same era?

There are no B9s in an e12.  There were 2 e24 B9s and it was common in the e28.

The B7 is a turbo -- first with Pierburg and then later with motronic.  The B9 in normally aspirated, basically a built motor with a cam, forged higher compression pistons and a ported head.  Truth be told, the B9 motor is something that could easily be recreated by any good machine shop nowadays.
