What did you do to your NK this week?

This week pulled the front bumper off. Also installed a new starter, so it was time for a little drive. You'll see the starter isn't a rebuild of the Bosch original, based on some recommended options from the 02 crew I went with an aftermarket new starter, aftermarket of the Bosch SR441X. As recommended, it is smaller, lighter, rolls the engine over quicker and quieter. Don't mind the old wiring :)

You should add the associated bracket for that starter. part #12 41 1 308 480

We taped off the car, mixed up the Glazurit, and good guy Barney shot the underside. “Carpet matches the drapes”as they say...

Now I can get busy bolting this project back together.

Before we shot it, I spent my last chance to inspect the underside and applied POR15 paste to any crevice or welded seam.

As of last Saturday, Papa’s Church Car is rolling on its own wheels again. Subframes, brakes, and engine in place.

Great updates Ed!

On the topic of wheels, I'm trying to decide on what wheels for our 69 NK. When we picked it up, it sat on E30 bottlecaps, which I don't want to keep. I've searched and search on what others have ran for wheels.

Does anyone happen to have a set of 14x5 steel rims for an NK sedan they'd be willing to part with?

Thanks, Patrick

A simple fix this weekend, new speedometer cable from Ireland Engineering. Decided to use their cable, they are sourcing them directly from Germany to keep the quality high. Nice cable and good to see the miles ticking now.

Installed IE 02 coilovers with Alfa gtv6 brembo calipers that were previously in my old wrecked 02. NK steelies won’t clear brakes calipers. Had to order 12mm spacers. No i wait to see if went too low!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
