Intake studs and copper exhaust manifold nuts? I may be wrong but i thought the exhaust manifold studs were black.

Yup the black oxide ones should be used I think because the black oxide doesnt burn off like the zinc when they get hot? Something like that.

What I’ve purchased here are the OEM studs from BMW. I’m ok if the zinc burns off. The originals that I’ve removed have no finish.

Will be at this point next week after removing the exhaust manifold that was linked to the emissions control system :) have fun!

There's a great thread on studs on the FAQ.

Thanks! It hasn’t been a bad job, for me anyway. And yes, that thread\faq is a reference for me!  Currently I’m cleaning up the block on that side to paint it while the exhaust is out of the way.

Get black oxide ones from ACE. There’s a reason they used em. Once the zinc burns off those nuts will rust cock stiff to the studs. OEM exhaust studs are black oxide. You probably purchased intake studs.

got a head start on tomorrows project.
tonight got the center link back off and soaked the rubber grommets in oil per FAQ thread.
Also started the springs/brakes project. Not sure I’ll have enough time to do the full project but got the rear springs in tonight. 1-1/4” lowered springs from IE.
Now it’s time for a tasty adult beverage.

If you have an ACE nearby or (possibly even a home depot in the specialty fastener drawers) they sell these things in many sizes. Should be basically the same.
