I wasted a lot of time going to school in Austin.  Missed SRV by a couple years.  Did see Luther Allison at Antone's when it was up on Guadalupe.  That man played loud - my ears are still ringing.  Pinetop Perkins. Chris Duarte at Steamboat at his best, with frosty.  Gate mouth,  Bad Livers, Storyville, etc. Continental Club before South Congress was gentrified.  Horseshoe Lounge still there on S. Lamar?  I have some pics somewhere with the Bud Light girls playing pool there in the early afternoon . . . .

Oh, and Mason Ruffner.  ALWAYS at his shows, often with little company.

He played on that Dylan album that re-started his career...that was a while ago, now.  I really like his playing.

another Austin guitar player was with Dylan from 2005 to 2010.  Denny Freeman... played in the Antone's house bands forever.  Very solid bluesman

Resumed band practice this past weekend after a break for April school vacation.  Our measure of progress is that after most every song we look at each other and say something like "hey, that almost didn't suck!"  I'll take it.

I gave up trying to coerce my brother out of his Silverface Princeton Reverb... Finally spent my allowance on a vintage 1965 blackface Pro Reverb. Wow... butter-smooth reverb and that glassy breakup I grew up on listening to SRV.

It’s basically a Twin with half the power...2 12”s and 40 watts. Still too loud for the house, might buy an attenuator. For now, I’ve dialed in some delay and reverb and re-learning “Lenny”.
