Stock exhaust question - tii vs non-tii

Hi - Does anyone know if the tii rear muffler (Part No. 18121108739) is compatible with non-tii cars?  It looks like the non-tii rear muffler (Part No. 18121104503) is about $60 more, so I was wondering if I could just get the tii version.

Im 99% sure it will be fine......

 

of course you  must be consistent w/ center exit vs side exit........but u knew that.

There was no difference in the exhaust systems (behind the down pipe)  between the standard 2002 and the tii for each year.  There is a difference between the center exit exhaust and the side exit but that is based on year.

That´s wrong. There were and are different part numbers for original BMW tii and non-tii pre-silencers/resonators and mufflers. For the pre-silencers one can see the difference just from just comparing the look of both parts. 

 

Besides that the diameters of the connections and the overall length do not differ so that each part can generally be mechanically combined with every other. So a tii muffler can be mounted on a non-tii car and should do no harm there.

Heh, yeah.  That's why I thought it would be too good to be true, that I can use a tii version as a cheaper replacement.

I remember paying significantly more to replace the rear muffler on my 74 Tii  It's different like so many other parts for a Tii    Bye the way I think they only cane as side exits because they were only 1972 1973 1nd 1974 cars Yes ?

I installed a tii muffler from BLUNT in May 2009

I painted it with Eastwood's HT silver (brush-on) paint.  It still looks pretty much the same today.
