5 speed won't fit!

Ok,

So i'm on the tail end of swapping a 245 in to my 73' and i can't get it to fit! I'm getting stuck while raising the tranny up to pressure plate, I get the trans flush with the tunnel, but the input shaft needs an additional inch or so to mate up. Im thinking I need to physically move the engine(tilt it down?), but i'm not sure how. Dear lord someone help me. BTW i live in Houston if any locals want to come poke fun at me/video it for youtube/watch me get crushed by a falling transmission.

Without the weight of the transmission, the engine can rock forward on it's nose (gotta be careful the fan doesn't poke the radiator)

Get a jack under the pulley/harmonic balancer and give it some nose-high attitude which would likely get you enough clearance at the bellhousing.

Get a couple long bolts the size of the big ones that bolt the trans to the engine, cut the heads off, file some flats on the shank so they can be wrenched out later and thread them into the engine holes.  Use these as guides to start the alignment.  You will quickly see how much the engine needs to be tilted up/down/right/left and the pilot will slop right in.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

I did dent, I dented with a large hammer, but only on the side where the slave cyl is. I tilted from the oil pan, until there is about 3-4 inches from the distributor from hitting the firewall. The engine is cocked to drivers side a lot. Wiggling ensued, I still can't get the input shaft closer than about an inch away from the receiving hole. Should I loosen the motor mounts? if so where, and I don't have an engine jack.

Feels bad guys :(

Jimk, I guess my big problem is how do i tilt the motor and move it around?

tilt the engine back until the dizzy is almost touching firewall.  loosen the  engine mount bolts a bit to allow flex.

you can also unscrew the bolts holding the subframe to the frame rails about a half inch each.  this lowers the engine just enough to get some room.

Good point!  I've done that also and have some lonter bolts for there too.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
