engine and drivetrain What Diffs Fit in 02s

I have a friend that just clobbered a curb in his $900 1990 525i and ruined the front end. iI was wondering if it would be able to fit the diff in to an 02 with minor modifications. It's an LSD so that would be a huge upgrade for me.

It depends how you define "minor modifications"! Are you comfortable customizing your rear subframe?

NOWHERE near plug-and-play! If you want LSD, find an e21 diff.

E30 diffs are a different animal, E21 diffs are the common upgrade. I'm sure with deep pockets, anything is possible.

Well, its a fairly involved swap. I'm going through it right now... lots of fabrication involved (have to remove the subframe and do welding) as well as possibly getting the drivetrain shortened and locating the correct axles. Also the rear mount will need to be modified on the car.

He's referring to a 1990 525i. Isn't that an e34?

Save yourself the world of time and money. If you want a limited slip find an e21 and an adapter kit from IE . You will be happy and it will cost you much less in time and agony.
