New Door Strikers

I bought replacement door strikers from BMW to replace the cracked one on my door.  I figured I would buy a set and do both sides, since they are cheap enough.  Well, the driver's door worked okay, but the passenger side required slamming to get the door to close.  I looked at the old one I took off and there is a thick side and a thin one.  The thick faces the car.  I pulled off the replacement piece and flipped it over and sure enough, the door closes properly again.  The original kernel has an obvious difference side to side, but the new one is very hard to see.  I just wanted to point this out, in case anyone runs into it with the new parts.

One side was correct, one side wasn't.

 

Interestingly the side that was wrong is the door I have more trouble with in terms of latching.

 

That is CRAZY.

I may not have specified that I wanted oem, but assumed that was what you'd sent.

Perhaps I pulled the number off your automated site.

I see now that it is listing an APA/URO part.

My bad, apparently.  Thank you for the correction.

If I had it to do over, I would order BMW kernels. 

 

 

Are the BMW ones indeed better?

I have confused myself on that site in the past and you suggested using email or phone.  

I did use email, but pulled the number off the site.

It is a long and windy learning curve.

If only I could upgrade my mental sway bars...

Technically, of course, in American convention,

the striker's the part bolted to the body, not the

part on the door.

Good point.  Like calling a hammer an anvil.  :)

 

In the links above, the APA/URO part is labeled a striker, but the OEM/BMW is referred to as a bump stop.

 

Even the semantics are better with Genuine German BMW Parts!    (despite the language barrier)

 

The old Colonels are back on my doors now.  Cracks to the backs.

Amazing difference. Say to yourself, "thick side to the car". That tid-bit really makes a difference! The odds were predictable; the passenger-side was correct and the driver-side was not.

I received a surprise package in the mail yesterday, from Blunttech.


It contained a set of Genuine BMW bump stops!  :)


They are much softer than the APA pair I'd ordered.


You can see the stress marks in the APA pair from being on and off the car.


The BMW set is much more pliable.


 


Just one more example of Steve going above and beyond.


He had sent me exactly what I'd asked for in my initial order and yet 'made it right' despite my oversight.


He even included this super cool bump stop removal tool!!
