Lapisblau Tii

Stu

Recommended Posts

I have never seen this color.  Lapis blue, same color as my wedding ring.

I can't copy and paste the link, but it's on e-bay (1974 BMW 2002 Tii).

I always do it right the second time.

I have a 1982 323i Baur that is Lapisblau.  It is a daily driver, however, and the paint is in need of attention at some point.

This was after my first drive in 2010, so the wheels are now turbines, the bumper is gone and the signals are clear.  Oh, and my beard is perhaps showing a little more gray.   :)

I can't figure out why 02 owners go through all the trouble to remove the lower side trim but they leave the U.S. spec side marker lights on the car???  While you are there, you might as well do the rest ....   The VIN on this tii (2780668) is less than a 100 #'s less than mine, which makes the build date for this tii in early DEC 73.  I've owned numerous 02's for over the past 30 years and  I've seen my share of Atlantik, Riviera, Baikal, fjord, pastelblau, turkis,  etc.... of blue 2002 colors but Lapis blue is a new one for me.

Lapis blue is not a 2002 color, and I don't believe anyone is claiming it is.

The decal on the inner front fender well looks old and original, and says lapisblau on it.  That's all I know!

The colour decal is not correct for that period (see pic of correct one).

The car was originally Fjord, according to Ebay Seller back in 2007, and reportedly had rust in the wrong places.

Stu,

You can purchase those color stickers saying any color in the world. And this has been true for 30 years. Lapis blue did not exist during the '66-'77 "02 era".

Here is a link to a color chart showing the years the various colors were in use from the factory for the E21.  It appears that Lapisblau was introduced in 1980, and could have continued into the E30 production years, although this chart does not have that info.

 http://www.e21-board.de/wbb/index.php?page=FarbtabelleUniStandard

Btw, for those of us with too much time on our hands, check out this link to a fun page:

http://www.e21-board.de/wbb/index.php?page=FarbtabelleStandard

Just click on the various colors to change the color on the car depicted above the chart.  That page is for the standard colors;  there is also a link to the metallic colors.  Have fun!

I don't know if there is a similar page for the 2002 colors, but perhaps some clever person with the skills out there could put one together.   :)

Thank you for doing this research.

There is/was a similar page for 2002's but I believe we lost track of it when we upgraded the website.
