Hi Cru Jones, that is cool motorcycle .. I think racer in 50's name "Cooper"  had moon eyes on his helmet or fairing .. he was known for full throttle in to a corner and cut throttle in turn....   trailer hitch: I have a straight muffler from a Audi and the idea of mount is make the horiz and slope down 1st on bench then with car on lift I have 10" to go up over the muffler (may have to move muff.. a bit to right for install)... then can bolt unit in to place ... then the rear gussets install with some move around ability  .... I have 4 other places to increase strength if needed or want to do at that time...... Lucian

If you can find a copy of the blue factory shop manual, it gives instructions for installing the factory trailer hitch--that will give you locations for bolting up what you fabricate, how to tie into electrical system etc...

cheers

I took the hitch off my '76 for the same reason... busted shins. It was not a factory accessory and the attachment seemed a little wimpy. They did a nice job of tapping into the tail lights though, by soldering the wires onto the bulb socket tabs, as opposed to splicing into the wire. I added the connectors to make the light assemblies removable for cleaning and painting. (the blue ones in the photos).

FYI - Here is a pic of a Da'Lan hitch I had on the back of my 73 2002 for years.  It mounted above the center exit Superprint exhaust and was bolted to the body behind the bumper and up through the center frame rail.  No problems towing and retrieving a 15 ft. Boston Whaler with a 50 hp engine about a 1/2 mile to the launching ramp.
