Who pays 100 bucks for a gas pedal... I could barely sell one for 10 bucks...

Best of luck man! Make sure it's got a title too!! It's a HUGE headache if you don't have one. Been there, done that. Twice.

I'm guessing most of the naysayers have really nice cars that they did checkbook restos on. I could be wrong, but otherwise I don't see why anyone is discouraging you. I have bought two 02s in the sub 500 range and have gotten my money (plus some) out on the parts I didn't want on both cars. Worst case scenario, you can't get it road worth and you make a few hundred bucks parting it. Save the money up towards the next one.

$500 to play around with friends and do some fun wrenching and racing? I'm not sure why anyone would be giving you a hard time about that?

I've spent that much to fool around on a go-carts track here in Carlsbad, CA.

The only hang up would be if you want it to be street legal, does it have a title?

Well...... the passenger side floorboard was completely gone... cancer all the way up the trans tunnel. Frame rail was weak. Realllly weak.

I explained all this to the jersey shore transplant. I guess with the amount of skin color changing chemicals in his head he didn't understand.

I told him $500 was me being generous as the motor was WEAKER than the frame.

He held tight to his "its a classic" I held to its falling apart. 800 was the lowest he would go.

So I burned some serious amounts of diesel home without a 02...... :(

DAMN IT......I want a 02!!!....(insert temper tantrum here with raging vulgarity).

The search continues...... blah.....

Doesn't the first picture show the dreaded rear tap kink over the rear wheel?

I have seen worse.

Runs and drives?

Too bad about the roof. That is a lot of work to fix ether way.

700? Id' do the Wheeler Dealer look in the eye, 500 cash right here right now and hold out your hand.

In the end it will probably be a parts car for your next one.

But you never know. Worse things have been resurrected.

EDIT: Now that I have read the whole thread, I see you did the right thing. He may call you to come take it. That's when you say 200 and I'll come and get it.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
