Speedo Rubber Grommet Trick?

Is there a trick to installing the rubber grommet in the firewall for a new speedo cable?

I fought for an hour trying to feed a whole lot of rubber through a small hole. arrrgh!

Hope someone can help with this.

I had the same experience, so at least you are not alone! I can't remember a specific trick that I used, but I finally got it. I am sure that I put some grease on it. Keep fighting, it will submit to you eventually!

I feel for the guy at the factory who did this 8 hours a day 5 days a week... I would say some grease or soap to try and slip it in there and work your way around the grommet.

Need two people. One in the engine bay - one under the dash. Mlytle and I did this to our cars. Of course, my car was the most difficult one. I used some petroleum jelly (Vasoline).

WD40 the gromet, it works much better!

Yep - lube it. I think I used some dishsoap and a flat nylon trim tool to shove mine in from the floorboard side. I remember it being a huge PITA.
