Euro Bumper conversion for a 74

Recommended Posts

Just did it.....I have pics an details on my website....

http://www.project2002.com

Also do a search...lots of options. Early bumpers, late bumpers, short, long, replace the front nose with an older one or use the same mounts and deal with it being slightly higher....lots of choices...its not plug and play. I had to make front brackets and replace the shocks with pipes...if you are good with tools and your hands, wont be an issue. If not to get it done right will take LOTS of labor...

I used the shorty rear bumper and a late front bumper...I am thinking of going with an early front though without the rubber strips on bumper ends.

Everything you want to know about doing a Euro bumper conversion to a square tail light car.

IMHO, I'll take a square tail light car with Euro bumpers over a roundie any day. Square tail light 02's with small bumpers look so awesome. Ditch the diving board bumpers, do the Euro bumper conversion and shave the side marker lights for the way the 2002 is suppose to look like.

I did the same bumper conversion my 74 tii.

Hi, I recently bought a 1976 2002 and wanted to do the same conversion but couldn't find any bumpers to buy online (new or used). I want the longhorn bumpers in the rear and the same bumper all of you have in the front. Any suggestions or links on where to find them?

Thank you, I would've never found this site. I am confused on the terms the website uses and the lack of pictures makes it hard. I thought the term "horn" referred to the price which wraps around the side and goes along the fenders, But I think the website is using it to refer to the 2 bump guards on the bumper.

If I did it again I would use the Anton front kit and save much effort

Cut into body:

Drilled into the frame rail:

Used bolts through the Rail:

After aligning on car:

Re-Positioned mounts so I could count on the Bumper instead of the Nose touching in my garage:

Rear using the "OEM" Hardware:

If you want the minimalist look of the Euro bumper, and don't want carve into the metal, you could remove the stock bumper, and attach some Rally style lights.  Just don't overdo it and make your car look like the Nuclear Simpsons Fish.

(random internet pic, can't find a pic of my friend's car that did this)

Hey folks-I'm doing the bumper conversion on a '76, and I sailed through the front bumper, but the harness that attaches to the car on the rear is stumping me. I've got the exterior body holes drilled out. Do I drill through the frame piece that lies directly behind the rear trunk area, and run a bolt from inwards out, or does it attach to just the body? Thanks.

Not trying to hijack.

Aren't the Anton Kits available from Blunt?

Plus if people are still looking, Blunt also sells the stainless euro style bumpers from 02 bumpers as well. You can get a bit of a price break by ordering the front and rear bumpers with the Anton kit as a bundle.

(future project)

RJD if you are using the Anton kit, you may want to check with Steve at Bluntech for some tips.

Cheers.
