  1. WTB 16111111604 tii gas tank, realoem shows it as being from From: 09/01/1973. Would need to be reasonably clean, I have a rusty one, don't need another of those. We can figure out shipping, it'd be going to 77379.
  2. FYI Tried sending a PM, error message came that you can't receive messages. Any chance that among those parts is a clean tii gas tank? I need one for a 74, per realoem that's 9/73 or later. What other tii goodies do you have? I"m ok for water pumps (have two, one used but good, one new) but am always on the lookout for fuel system parts at a price that I can afford. Thanks, Barrett
  3. I'm in the same boat - except since I'm using a Getrag 240 I need someone who can "make to measure", as most that have them already fabbed up only have them for use with a Getrag 245.
  4. Sorry, I must not have your ability with the search engine here - I typically have my best luck with Google search, but using keywords like engine storage or mothball didn't get me results. If you can point me to the search terms or a thread I'm happy to learn from what's already been posted.
  5. I'm pulling apart my parts car, and am interested in what people do in preparation for mothballing different parts that they save away. For example, heads - can I just leave them intact if I'd probably be replacing the valve springs anyway if\when I put the head into service, or should I disassemble them? Anything I can do with the block to flush it out and prevent any more corrosion in the coolant passages? I suppose in a perfect world I'd do some combination of dipping, stripping, and then dunking into a 55 gallon drum of cosmoline, but for the guy who hasn't done this and has all that on hand, what's the low hanging fruit to at least do something to keep things well preserved?
  6. Just for reference here in the thread while we're talking lamda sensors, I'm told that the Bosch 4.9 sensors have better longevity than the 4.2
  7. Thanks - I'd not heard of uship, looks like exactly what I need.
  8. Slightly off-topic - but the compressor is for my garage to work on my 2002. I'm hoping people who have shipped drive-trains, transmissions or that sort of thing may be able to help me out. I've found a pair of used compressors for a great deal - but they're in Rhode Island and I'm in Houston. They're just the compressor, approximately 2'x2'x3' and weigh 300 lbs each. They're rectangular so they should be pretty easy to secure to a pallet. I know people are going to suggest that I just buy something local - but this is to good of a deal to pass up if I can work out the shipping. I've used Forward Air before for shipping from airport freight terminal to airport freight terminal - but in this case I need someone who can put the units on pallets and either ship them or get them to a freight terminal, be it Forward Air or someone else. Anyone have experience with a shipper that can do this? Barrett
  9. Full on a working sender typically is zero ohms across the terminals, empty about 75 ohms. Maybe somewhere the lead is shorted out. Given both senders behave the same I wouldn't expect it to be the sender itself. If you want to understand how the sensor works look for the thread I wrote on rebuilding senders.
  10. I had someone who was going to send me the front section of an e21 driveshaft for me to use having a driveshaft fabricated for the Getrag 240 in my car. One advantage was that he was BMW-knowledgeable and I was relying on his knowledge to lop off a long enough chunk of the front section. Unfortunately I can't get the guy to get it done, toss it in a box and tell me what I owe him. So now I'm dealing with folks who are not familiar with grafting a three yoke flange front section onto a shortened driveshaft - and there's no sense in paying to ship the whole front section if I can just have them grab their plasma cutter and chop it off. So, how much length of the front section do I need? There are also e30 driveshafts that have the same 3 yoke flange as they also used a Getrag 240, the diameter of the driveshaft itself is larger, but the driveshaft tube necks down to the same diameter where it joins the flange. I was told by someone at the Mid-America that you can use an e30, that the tube size doesn't matter, that only the diameter of that front section up by the flange matters - can anyone confirm that? If that's the case there's a yard local to me with a 318 driveshaft I can grab, but I'd feel a lot better with confirmation from someone that's actually used an e30 driveshaft before. Thanks! Barrett
  11. If you're not opposed to spending some money on a tool that you'll only use infrequently - but make you instant best friends with anyone with the odd sound they can't track down, take a look at a Steelman ChassisEar - https://www.amazon.com/STEELMAN-06600-ChassisEAR-Electronic-Squeak/dp/B000IHIAES?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_3043628011 I have one, in total others have used it more than I have, but it sure is handy when you want to track down a hard to locate noise. They make a really neat unit with wireless pickups, but I already have mine and the wireless unit is even more expensive.
  12. Any chance you can disassemble the old sending unit and graft the low fuel contact and leads onto a new sender? I tore open an old sending unit and rebuilt it - pm me a pic if what's left of your old sensor and maybe with that I can give a better opinion of your options.
  13. Any brand of self fusing tape better than others - or any to avoid?
  14. I meant the multiples of valve gaskets I'll use over time.
  15. Someone recommended using Hylomar for my valve cover gaskets, that they can be removed and reinstalled easily this way - but I see where in addition to the Universal Blue \ Aerograde that there's also a "M", andvanced formula and others that are different from the originals. Anyone here used them and can comment on the suitability for general use for one formulation over another? Barrett
  16. Can I assume you've talked to Redline? REDLINE BIMMER PERFORMANCE 1144 NE 48th st Pompano Beach FL 33064 9547837003 I've not had them do any work for me so I can't say either way, but my brother was tracking his 2002 and he would talk shop with them at the Rolex and has a good impression of them.
  17. Thanks for all the replies on this - it made it a lot easier to let a friend have my parts car's windshield when he cracked his getting ready for the mid-am.
  18. I have a used tii water pump I'd like to get rebuilt - at one point in time RockAuto reportedly was doing this. I contacted them and they replied "When checking on our website for a part, the return and rebuild parts will have "return and rebuild service only" in the product description. If you don't see a return and rebuild part listed, unfortunately that means we don't have the service currently available" Anyone know of any alternatives for getting a pump rebuilt? Barrett
  19. Are there still reliable sources of front windshields today? I've found some older threads here that made me think as recently as 2015 that getting a replacement windshield wasn't too difficult, but it looks like maybe that's changed. Any good sources? Or is getting a decent quality one from a salvage yard and stashing it away the best bet? Barrett
  20. I'm going to try it first on the sending unit from my parts car, but I'm planning on using a thin strip of 1000 grit emery paper slid up and down between the two contacts, once on each side. Just putting this out there in case someone wants to try it out - it'll be a while before I'm ready to try it.
  21. There's an article at http://www.my2002tii.com/tii_fuel_filter.htm discussing using a Mercedes filter that's bigger - they had relocated the battery to the trunk so there was plenty of room. One benefit mentioned there I hadn't considered was the fact that the larger filter provided a larger reserve of fuel available to the engine - don't know how much of an issue that is, but with the original fuel pump having the accumulator to it, I suppose it can't hurt.
  22. The Bosch filter from RockAuto I mentioned is the size for use in the standard location in the engine compartment.
  23. For a tii isn't a metal bodied filter recommended? RockAuto had Bosch filters for $7.
  24. Plenty of wire left for anyone wanting to rebuild a sender, so the offer still stands - pm me for my address, then send me a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope).
  25. Agreed, a nice upgrade - unless like me you have a tii
