  1. I don't know about the later style oil filters, but the earlier type did have a bypass.
  2. I don't mind the ads as long as they are well integrated(ie not covering up forum content) . Those pop-up ads were a bit irritating.
  3. I would recommend that before you buy a car, that you ask people on this forum for a ride in their car. There are MANY flavours of 02's, and I would recommend that you at least test a few to get a feel for what you prefer. Most owners here would be more than willing to let you test their cars, you just have to ask. As for prices and repair costs, it depends. It is usually cheaper to buy a more expensive car that runs well than to fix one up, so make sure that (especially the engine on the tii) the car runs well. Rust should be your main concern as it is the most expensive problem to fix, make sure that someone that knows these cars inspect it for rust. Find a car that is already modified the way you like if at all possible, getting shops to to do the work for you will be more expensive. As for value, tii's, roundies, euro bumpered and stock cars command the highest prices and will continue to do so. (I'm omitting the more rare 02s) But THE best advice I can give you, is to not rush things. Take your time, go test drive cars, keep searching and educating yourself and you will most likely find a car that makes you happy. Best regards Jacques Edit: Btw, a well sorted 02 is a pleasure to drive, these cars handle great, can stop quickly, have light controls and can be very reliable. The only thing that shows its age is the cabin noise, but I like that because it adds to the driving experience.
  4. So my dad found a guy selling a '72 2002 Touring, and I know so little about these cars that I feel inadequate giving advice on the purchase. The current owner intended to restore the car, but he is retiring -he owns a body shop- and is selling all his unfinished projects (including a 700, tii, etc). The car is a couple of hours drive from us and we will most likely go and look at he car over he weekend, and bring it back if it is savable. My question is, what is unique to the touring that I must look out for, are there any rust areas or scarce parts that I need to make sure is there? I am guessing the rear hatch and surrounding areas will be difficult to find sheet metal for, so I will make sure that is in good condition. I will post up some pictures as soon as I have some. Regards Jacques
  5. One thing is for certain, 99% of the 02 owners will be jealous of your car! I know I am.
  6. Ok ok, I will google for you. Its called EZ powersteering. http://www.ezpowersteering.nl/userupload/file/BMW.pdf
  7. No easy way, but there are ways. One is using an E21 rack and much fabrication. The other is a company in England that makes a neat electronic assisted kit. But like esty said in less words, google is your friend.
  8. We are referring to two different posts. This is the post I made of the restored ti. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/index.php?/topic/127558-2002ti-for-sale-55,200-euro-##-Added-more-pics-###entry82941 For a while the only 02 sold with Colorado paint was the ti, I guess that supplemented its popularity. That car was for sale for €55,200 iirc. But still pricey considering originality.
  9. Steve, my car -an originally colorado 2002ti 1691398- had a non-original black interior when I got it, but after stripping the car to bare metal, I found pieces of what seemed like original blue vinyl under the rear seats. I'm not sure if it was the original interior, but if it was, then you could get colorado and navy combinations at some point. I'm digging more into this for the originality sake of my car. Regards Jacques
  10. No, I believe that is the previous car I posted a while ago, not the one that's currently for sale.
  11. Yeah, Google translate is quite horrible. Tony, as much as I agree with your statement, I don't think you should sell your car. At least not to till I have money to buy it...
  12. Well, there are a few benefits, and definitely some drawbacks. Biggest benefit from adding a caliper is the ratio change. More piston surface area with the same plunger will result in a much softer pedal, maybe enough to drop the boosters all together. The second is pad life, it should last much longer, but then again, you will still replace the same amount of pads over a certain period. Then there is the reduced heat on the pads, that might allow the use of a streetable compound on the track. Not the most elegant, but definitely A solution to certain specific problems. Regards Jacques
  13. Well, very little bolts on directly. If your fabrication skills are up to snuff you can modify the rear subframe to fit under the 02, then you will have better geometry and a greater diff selection. But its no mean feat. You might also have to run flares as the track is wider. I have seen pictures of an e30 steering rack on an 02 race car, but I assume there had to be some crazy fab work involved. The radiator might work with a little playful drilling. Well, you can use everything if you are willing to rip out a grinder and a welder, but it doesn't mean you end up with something better. What do you need on your car? I assume an engine and gearbox.
  14. Also, there are no rust free deserts in Germany... And we know how these cars love to rust! Yip, I had to double check myself before posting this as I also thought it could be the same car. The previous one I posted, was sold a while ago, but I wonder if he got his price.
  15. I found this while fooling around on google.de last night. It is pretty, its not cheap though. €85,000 to be exact. Link to the site
  16. Bike engines have little torque, but that's why there is a gearbox. Getting your gear ratios right will be crucial, and most likely very expensive. Unless you are rolling in the dough, I don't see the point. There are MANY lightweight 4 cylinder engines that would be much cheaper to build. (think F20c, SR20DET, 2ZZ turbo, M42 turbo, 3S-GTE, etc). Even a stock M10 responds well to a turbo. The question is not "What has been done" but What do YOU want?
  17. If you don't mind shipping to South Africa, pm me a price when you are ready, I might be interested. Regards Jacques
  18. Judging tyre quality, or anything for that matter, by what country produces it, is a bit daft imo. Although, having said that, all Achillies tyres I have ever seen are cheap, and are built accordingly. I have seen many blowouts in hot weather with them. But I have never run them myself. They might make higher quality tyres, but none that I have seen. Regards Jacques
  19. What? There are still places in the world that hasn't discovered metric tape measures?
  20. ^^^^Whaha I just had coffee running through my nose...
  21. Daniel's wheels are et0 iirc. So yours would require less work to make it fit. If the offset on the other wheels are acceptable I would go for the trade. Regards Jacques
  22. Had to go re-check, and you are right. Quite a ridiculous price difference if you ask me! I am also restoring a set of NK wheels, hopefully I get a set somewhere for a better price.
  23. Btw, those hubcaps are available from Walloth&nesch for €33. A damn good price if you ask me. Regards
  24. That offset pushes the wheel out further than would be ideal. I suspect that 195s will rub without a bit of fender rolling. It should clear the struts easily though.
