  1. Hi, i have full harnesses in boxes as removed from a few cars. i read your post but i am not sure which car. carb or tii. if you call it a "ti" is a gray market car that was brought in. let me know. and i will find you a suitable replacement. thanks stone
  2. Hi, my two cents. before the pump so that you can see what may have gotten into the pump. also, in a more serious point i have seen too many filters after the pump that were ziptied or clamped to the alternator in any number of fashions. additionally, i have seen even more filters after the pump that just bounced around above the alternator. finally i have serviced two cars that were brought in after a filter broke open over an alternator and had a fire. for what the filter actually does in this type of service having it before seems to be the safest and easiest to replace. good luck stone
  3. Hi, in all the 25plus years that i have been changing trans' and clutches i have used the same way of holding the fork in place from the outside during trans installation. push the fork and throw out bearing(tob) onto the input shaft. next force the tob all the way back against the trans and the fork will compress the slave cylinder action. now wrap a tiewire around the small end of the slave cylinder within the fork end and then around the big end of the slave cylinder. this keeps all the parts out of the way during installation. the tiewire is outside of the bell housing and can be cut free after the trans is bolted in tight. also important is to not install the trans w/slave cylinder with the bleed nipple installed because it will surely break off during the install. good luck stone
  4. it seems that the clutch is working correctly but not releasing. try this, push car onto open long street. start car in neutral not in gear. warm up motor completely. turn off car. restart car in first gear. hold down clutch and do not release. once car has some momentum, bang on the brake pedal several times. this should free the clutch disc from the flywheel where it has rusted too.
  5. Hi, you should be looking into the throwout bearing. there are different sizes and heights. the bigger flywheel uses a different bearing than the 215mm clutch. the one for a five speed conversion with a 228mm clutch uses a bearing from a euro 323 trans motor combination. i do not have part numbers now but you can contact lajolla independent BMW and speak with carl. he should be able to decifer your combination to make sure you have the correct combination of parts. good luck stone
  6. Hi, i think the shots are great!! i notice the small things alot, the rig shadow is in the bumper lower side reflection. the rig appears to be in the ps headlight as a split mirror image. these shots look like the ones from the short films by bmw from a few years back. post more pictures from all angles!!!!! stone

  9. Hi, the alternator on the left is the wrong one. i have encountered this same problem with units packaged wrong. you should find a local rebuilder and get the old unit rebuilt. it usually takes one day and will cost about the same amount. they can also re-install the urethane bushings for you and it may cost a few dollars less because they aren't using more parts. good luck stone
  10. Hi, i am looking for the automatic shift handle from your conversion. it needs to have the stationery button on the passenger side of the handle. does anyone have a leftover??? thanks stone
  11. Hi, i have found a bench seat that is available for free to me but needs to be shipped to philadelphia PA. the owner is willing to deliver it to the shipper for me but will not package it for me. i am looking for someone to get the bench seat from the guy and strap it down to a long pallet, then wrap it in shrink wrap type stuff with some cardboard and get it to the shipping place in oxnard. i am willing to pay for materials and time to do this. ANY takers?? thanks stone PS bench seat for a dodge sprinter!!

Hi, 1 no you can hit the underside of the cup shape and it will fall out 2 yes drill out from the balljoint side only 3 heat the cap and use a large pipe wrench and a maul 4 use the factory box end 13mm on the top and force a socket or the bottom to release. the ones there now are wrong. they should be allens from the bottom and 13mm on top. 5 no experience with urethane always replaced with factory rubber good luck stone
  14. Hi, for a regular oil change i use 5 quarts of 20-50. use a good filter like purolator pc201 or mann. when you install the filter fill it to the top and then put it on the engine. don't start the motor with a dry filter. you can crank the motor untill the oil light goes off, then start the motor. good luck stone
  15. were is this project car. is it a real turbo? is it the turbo that was sold out of Mass. two years ago? pictures please. thanks stone

  17. Hi, this is a common problem. the part i think you should order or check on is 34311121911 it works on the larger hole in the top of the master cyl. the part number comes from a CS coupe listing. i will check tomorrow i have one set in the shop.may be some one else can confirm also. stone

  19. Hi, while i was dismantling a 72 wreck i found that the running motor was actually a replacement. the head is e12 1981 and the block is tii 27811732. so does anyone have this car on the road still or is this thing an orphan. the car got t-boned a few years back and languished in the warehouse untill just a few months ago when i started stripping it for parts. the car got hit so hard that the dash board has a huge bend in it at the glovebox. some good parts and new stuff rolling aroud in the trunk. stone
  20. Hi, remove the spark plugs before any engine movement. crank the motor over to blow any fluid out of the cylinders. if enough water entered a cylinder a connecting rod can bend. you don't have to take off the carb. get a fuel pressure regulator and put it after the fuel pump.you should restart the motor as soon as possible and run untill fully hot to burn off any water for 30 minutes. you can make a quick electrical circuit to start and run the motor. fix the carb so that the float doesn't stick in the open spot. good luck stone
  21. Hi, i am interested in the back half of the body. quarter panels good at the rockers?? shock towers good with no bubbles?? can you post pictures. thanks stone
  22. Hi, i have read the prior posts and they are all important. i have seen this one time on an early 73. if the bulbs actually light up when you test the actual bulb then you should look near the battery, i think it is a white wire that becomes two wires in side a shrink wrap. this connection is for the high beam only and it becomes corroded from the battery gasses. test before and after the connection for power in the high beam setting. post a result good luck stone
  23. hi, a scrubbing sound is most likely a wheel bearing. getting old. check for wheel play as the repair manual describes. also it might be a worn spline shaft allowing the drum to rub on the backing plate. look for wear marks on the outter edge inside the drum edge. stone
  24. we, i just went out to my ix to get some stuff the kids left in it. and what do i see across the street!!! the neighbors have no respect for my cars on the street. the driver side of the car has some really great rot from the salt trucks pelting it. see attached SHAME. stone
