  1. I've lifted a shell off a trailer with 3 other guys, don't reckon you could do that with a rolling shell. 550kg
  2. no need to go new, but i was pretty sure you can buy them cause i've seen a brand new m10 before, complete motor. If you can find a head that hasn't been skimmed too much and is straight you will be fine if you have a good engine rebuilder. Even if it does have a minor crack they can weld it up no worries. Save the coin for some nice trick bits, if your this maticulous you will end up replacing everything else which will cost plenty anyway.
  3. When the engines are 30+ years old and have more layers than an onion of crud it will be hard to spot hair line cracks etc. The easiest way is to check if they are worth your time or giant paper weights is to simply measure the head, i think it should be about 130ish mm from new +/- something. Do a search here or look in any manual to find the numbers. This way you will know for sure. And if you have 3 good heads go and buy a lottery ticket or something because thats some good luck.
  4. Might sound like a silly question (if you already have) but have you measured the heads?
  5. No stress dude, i'm not in a super rush, but thanks.
  6. At this point i cannot see any reason why this wouldn't work (02again). But i am looking at a couple of others, the IE shorty header and a manifold made here in Germany.
  7. As the part # (11 62 1 265 449) for both LHD & RHD 2002 (2lts mtrs) is now the same, the answer must be yes. Up to sometime in '73 (late?) all RHD 2002s sported the same exhaust manifold (11 62 1 251 037). Probably it's main difference from the one available now will be the lack of tapped holes for emission thingies required in the US. This makes a lot of sense to me and is the answer i wanted to hear.
  8. Ok i see what your saying. The reason I'm asking is because im not around my car and cannot look at the actual manifolds myself. I can't remember but i feel like the manifold looked a lot more like the Tii one on this webpage, can anyone confirm for RHD cars? I just remember the first runner being an odd shape: http://www.my2002tii.com/oct_2001.htm But in terms of my original question do you think the LHD manifolds should fit? It makes sense to me logically due to the part numbers now and the fact they are manifolds not headers which obviously take up a lot less space.
  9. For part numbers and pics try Max/Real Oem under: 41 Bodywork -> 41 35 Hood For a good price try Blunt, he will know these parts anyhow.
  10. I'm confused as to what your saying Tom, all the numbers were the same on different manifolds, like normal and Tii??
  11. Yes i have searched, but want to clarify some things. For the uneducated, RHD cars have the problem of having a steering box in the space of where headers could go. I would like to buy something better than stock manifold but not proper headers (even if gains are minimal because I'm at that compulsive point of replacing shit i don't need at all just for the sake of spending money on the car.... you know what i mean) and have started by comparing part numbers, this is what i have found about exhaust manifolds: All except the Ti are based on a 02/73. Regular 02's Euro - RHD Manual - 11621265449 Euro - LHD Manual - 11621265449 U.S. - LHD Manual - 11621256211 Ti - 02/72 Euro - LHD Manual - 11621265449 Tii Euro - RHD Manual - 11621251037 (anyone know why this is different??) Euro - LHD Manual - 11621265449 U.S. - LHD Manual - 11621265449 From this it appears that they used the Tii manifold from LHD cars for the regular RHD 02's, and a different manifold for the RHD Tii's. This explains why everyone says the regular RHD manifold flows well. But my question to others is: This must mean i can use the 02again replacement manifold which i hear nothing but good things about. And maybe even the IE shorty headers (i will ask IE more info about these in terms of space)?? Your educated thoughts please. Cheers.
  12. oh ok what the heck. I got a pair of complete euro headlight buckets. 4 early kidney grills, a pair of door handles, a hub cap, 2 pairs of plastic headlight covers that looks like a dish bowl and some other stuff I couldnt identify. How am I going to hide this from the wife is the bigger issue. HA, i was considering bidding on this as well (I'm in Germany) but decided it would be a WANT buy, not a NEED buy. Germany seems pretty anti Paypal which i like (have now bought a few things and not once have they offered it), i think because their bank transfer is so good, its easier than paypal and doesn't cost anything. Ze Germans are very reliable on ebay in my experiances, as per most things.
  13. http://cgi.ebay.de/BMW-Sportsitze-02-2002-tii-touring-Turbo-ALPINA-911-912_W0QQitemZ250333376742QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutoteile_Zubeh%C3%B6r?hash=item250333376742&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A4|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318 No association.
  14. i have a set of these bushings at home and i had the same problem, can't remember where i got them from but they were a genuine part with a nice little BMW logo on the packet. I'm not going to debate it but i'm almost certain that these were an 1/8-1/4 of an inch too tall, times that by 4 and that makes a big difference. Spoke to my parts guy and he had heard of this problem before. I solved it by using urethane instead, perfect to install, cheap and meant to be one of the best basic suspension upgrades.
  15. I have only02 and the kit seems fine, qualitly is pretty good for the price and the guy i dealt with was a pleasure. It is in Salt and Pepper and a RHD kit! Just email him.
  16. The paint looks great and I'm guessing when it's all together it will look spot on, but i have to say that your car would look perfect with some earlier bumpers. Thats the nicest way i could put it.
  17. This would be my biggest concern. I live in Ingolstadt a few hours from Stuttgart and although the town is small i have only seen a few old cars all of which were in great shape (including two 02s). But, i have spoken to some friends about the topic before and they said if the car is an oldtimer (30+ years) then it is easier to register (special historic plates) due to less restrictions and insurance is a must which isn't too expensive from what i've seen, obviously could be different for older cars. But the importing laws factor is the unknown part. I would get on the TÜV website as a start but you also need to contact the government body in regards to the importing part, not sure of the name. http://www.tuev-sued.de/car_vehicles Also try here, this is the Motoring Body for Germany: http://www.bmvbs.de/en/ Both have english options if sie Deutsch ist nicht gut.
  18. Hmmmm. thats interesting because i'm sure i've spoken to the guys at Jaymic before and asked if their headers were a straight swap and i was pretty sure they said yes. Is there a chance Bill's aren't Jaymic's? I haven't had the oppertunity to look into custom made headers but it was a thought, any idea on the sorta coin for this, i have no idea, i imagine $500-1000?? I was thinking Jaymic because im in Germany earning Euros and figured if im going to buy them now is going to be easiest, but i will have find out more info on the Jaymics. Will let you know my findings.
  19. Hey Tom hows tricks? Things going well with the build? Just a question about headers, did you do any dyno testing with your Jaymic header before or after? Its the only thing i'm still mulling over, just got all my engine parts to the shop (pretty exciting thought) and was thinking about the stock header. I know from everything i've learnt that if you can't get equal lengths then dont worry about it, and a couple of race guys have said similar things. Was thinking of the Tarago linkage option? It seems a fairly easy mod, but i'm not sure how much it helps - as in can you then use anything or still rather restricted. What do you think?
  20. Super thread mate, just read it through start to finish and it makes me want to jump on a plane and fly 19000km home to finish my car. Good inspiration, keep up the quality work. Will.
  21. I don't think i said that these parts (o rings and bolts) were included in the re-build kits?? I didn't re-use the original bolts?? Why only do half the job, i think this it is false economy?
  22. Just wondering if anyone can help before this thread is lost in the hundreds of thread pages. Thanks
