  1. The ones i bought were from a VW place who specialised in Brakes and the bloke there said that its a commonish size for other cars of that era like Mercs, VW and maybe a couple others. So go speak to your local brake specialist, they will have seen them before. The reason their hard to get hold of is because they are flat and only one (or two) companies seem to make them and in limited quantities.
  2. Yeah thats how mine looked originally. The reason i pay good money for these supposedly OEM parts is so that i don't have to do any adjusting, it's really annoying when you pay the excess and it still isn't right. But your idea did cross my mind if need be. Hopefully i'm just not doing something right?? I bought them from Maximillian.
  3. I bought these online which are OEM, but they seem to be a little different to the originals i pulled out. These seals are longer and taller in height than the originals. Am i doing something wrong?? I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be able to see any black seal at all, just glass and chrome?? The length of the seal is equal on both sides of the glass to clarify.
  4. No worries. I'll let you know how my shroud goes. I would of thought those screws would be be pretty common. If you give me the specs i reckon i should be able to find them. My friends works for a Nut and Bolt wholesaler and has found every item i have needed so far, including some pretty fruity bolts. I'd be happy to try and return the favour.
  5. Thanks a million Bill, you've been a great help, i can now get excited about getting my wheel looking good.
  6. I feel like a bit of an idiot, but yes maybe a picture would help. Isn't the circular plate simply flat with a ID and OD?? Maybe because i don't have this part that it seems confusing. I really appreciate your efforts Bill. EDIT: Whoa, that was fast. While your there could you please grab the shroud diameters. The pics make plenty of sense - crystal clear. Also what size is your wheel out of curiosity?? Thanks EDIT EDIT: My mistake, i looked over the pics and it makes sense. I didn't realise the ring/plate had a lower section.
  7. Is section "a" funneled in shape or has it the same diameter the whole way through to the middle where the lip is, it seems to vary depending on the angle of the picture.
  8. Perfect!! Thanks for that. The ID & OD i'm referring to are of the ring (which is the first thing the screws bolt into) labeled 1 in my picture and black in colour - i need the two diamters of this ring. Thanks again.
  9. Mines a 350mm, but the ring dimensions would be a good start, would the shroud and ring dimensions be the same, i can't imagine them differing. I gave my wheel to a friend who said it would be no trouble to mock up a metal shroud and the ring. He was going to do it by guestimating, but i said i'd try to track down the dimensions. Thanks for the help.
  10. this was my thought about this board, it would only take a min, and i know plenty on people have the wheel. Good idea with the e9 forum, but surely someone here has the wheel and a spare 2 mins. Thanks again.
  11. I'd prefer to ask someone who is on this board rather than harass a random guy on the net, but if i don't get any responses here i might use it as a last resource, thanks for the effort.
  12. Tried this with no success a while ago. It's only going to cost me time, not too difficult a job i imagine - provided i have some dimensions.
  13. I'm missing a couple of parts for my wheel (the small flat ring and the housing for the hub) and i'm going to get them fabed up. This is the wheel i'm referring to: The measurements i need are the ID and OD of the first part. And the length and diameter at a & b of the second part. I could guess the dimensions, but i'm pretty fussy and would rather get it right the first time. Thanks to anyone who can help, i'd really appreciate it. Cheers
  14. If thats your problem (which seems unlikely) then just buy new ones, i think they cost me $30 each in Melbourne off the floor at Welch - 94158787. Is it your tyres or rim??
  15. Trying to zinc plate my nuts and bolts. Pulled the parts cars engine out. This might have something to do with the white smoke. no visible fractures, but I'll get it acid tested and all the rest next week. hard to see, but there are some serious gaps, i'm really surprised the engine ran so well when i drove the car home. I've spoken to the guys at IE and worked out what i'm doing in terms of engine parts, just another excuse to spend some money.
  16. Whoa!! 1. I know no body likes them, but, peninsular BM do SOMETIMES have reasonably prices NEW items like head lights or clutches. E.g, new head light assemblies for $200 a side. 2. I have found Ashley to be the cheapest for OEM stuff nearly every time, even with fancy things like grills. The advantage of using Ashley is there is no shipping costs and insurance is unlimited, meaning a part rocks up bent he'll just order another. 3. Tom - The site sounds like a good thing, keep it simple and i can't imagine BMW being able to do anything (or have the right) so long as you state that its not affiliated with them. 4. The Only02 carpet sets are good, i ordered one in S&P, highly recommend them. 5. Lastly, i picked up my 5-speed and tail shaft for $100, told them (pick-a-part) it was a 4-speed (put a 4-speed knob on it). EDIT: 6. Lastly last, i haven't used this guy but he has an assortment of stuff, in particular rubber seals, he has all different lip profiles, just take the old stuff in (maybe send some) and he'll see if he has a match. http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au
  17. Thats a great piece of engineering, nice one.
  18. you can un-pick the lenses and each section pulls out, there is a small screw and then using a blade to break the hard sealant stuff. Also, all the round tails (RHD) i have seen look to be the same on both sides, but maybe thats a RHD vs. LHD thing.
  19. yeah thats what i thought, whats the best way to get them looking cleaner? I washed one with citrus cleaner and it came up ok, but won't look great in a new engine bay. Cheers
  20. I'm after the following i think: 6 RECEPTACLE HOUSING 2 03/1971 07/1977 61131350616 Its the connector that the relays plug into for the wires. I could go to the wreckers but i need four and it would be nice to get fresh clear ones. I need these ones and not generic ones as they slide into the metal tab nicely. I'm pretty sure its a Bosch part. Cheers
  21. A little old i know, but i thought i'd ask here before starting a new thread. How do you get rid of swirl marks on glass. I followed the above steps which provided a nice deep finish to the glass, but the swirls are still there. Any advice? Cheers
  22. Went to the painters today to see my car on the home made rotisserie: the only spot of rust
  23. Got a few things done this week: Time consuming this stuff, nearly done, used cotton tape in various widths. Put together the shift assembly for my 5 speed - thinking about painting it but i think ill just give it another good clean. Got the old ladies help with this, she's pretty handy with a staple gun. pretty happy with this little job.
