  1. They should be Sealed beams. Or are they euro-spec lights (H4, etc)?? If they're euro-spec bulbs, you should be able to just swap in the sealed beams, they should fit in the standard buckets.
  2. It's the SAME as a Bavaria, it's not a luxury version, or anything else. BMW labelled this car as the 3.0S or 3.0Si for a couple of years, then it was badged as the Bavaria for the US market- but it's the same car.
  3. Just buy a new one, most used ones aren't worth a crap and new ones aren't very expensive. Also, you need to specify if you have the L shaped or T shaped ICV, the intake boots are different.
  4. Pulled old filter and installed a new one today, mopped up the spilled oil and topped off the oil in the crankcase. Car started right up and no leaks at all!!! WOOT!!!!! Looks like the o-ring/gasket on the Wix filter had blown out, probably due to thick oil and cold temps.
  5. Thanks guys for the replies. I wasnt' planning on replacing the pump just for the heck of it, just looking for feedback before tearing into it. My plan right now is to replace the filter, top off the oil, then run it and see what it does. I think the PO installed a WIX filter on there, not sure if that is good, bad or neutral in terms of an internal relief valve in the filter. It was maybe 40-45 degrees today when I started the car, but I did have to blip the throttle a couple of times to keep the car from stalling out. I was planning to add an oil pressure gauge to the car sometime anyway, but with this development, it's just been moved up on the list a bit. Thanks!
  6. SAM!!!!!!!!!!!! Long time no see/chat/email. Hope everything's going well with you. Al does indeed have that same car, and I *think* he's actually been driving it a bit- though it's ALOT rougher than the car in that first pic. It was made by a coachbuilder in Belgium IIRC, at least that's what Al told me.
  7. So, I bought a '71 2002 ITB race car a couple of months ago. Haven't been able to get it on track yet, but I've been tinkering with it a bit. Went out to start it up this afternoon, just to keep things working. Car starts fine, but since it has no choke plates (Weber 32/36) you have to feather the throttle when it first starts to keep it from stalling out. I was doing this today and the oil light came on, I quickly shut it down and looked under the hood to see a flood of oil on the floor! I'm planning to change the filter and refill the oil and run the car again tomorrow. I've heard about the infamous "sticking pressure relief piston" for years and years, but it's never happened to me. I know Metric Mechanic sells (or used to sell) a "blueprinted" oil pump for M10's which is basically a new stock oil pump with a bronze sleeve in the body of the pump where the steel pressure relief piston fits. Last I saw on their site, it was ~$250, which is expensive, but not as much as a new OEM pump. Just looking for options/ opinions here- I know you guys won't let me down!
  8. Next time someone asks for a pic of a diff or a cyl head or engine block, just send them a crayon drawing done on the side of an oily piece of cardboard box.
  9. Yeah, interesting isn't it?? I've seen several things that I want to change right away, but all in all it looks pretty good.
  10. I believe the technical term for Blunt's hair is "timeless"........
  11. hehehe. Looks pretty solid overall, but wasn't a super-nice car to start with, so a race car is a perfect use for it IMHO. Got a few minor tweaks I want to make to it, then need to get it out on track!!! Hopefully before the end of the year........ Guess you fookers will see me around here a little more often now.
  12. Can you confirm that it's a 2.7l M20? The M20B27 is the eta engine, the "i" engine would be the M20B25.
  13. Well, I bought it. WOOT!!!!!! Still need to get it from CT to NC- currently shopping for someone to haul it. I would go get it myself, but I don't have the time, and I think I can get it hauled pretty cheaply. I'll post up once it gets here, hopefully in the next 2-4 weeks. (anyone headed from New England down this way with an empty trailer?? Let me know!!!)
  14. Thanks for the replies guys. It does seem like pretty solid car, I've gotten some details from the seller, and I just emailed him asking for some more info based partly on your replies. From the pics, it looks like the cage is a bolt-in cage that was welded in- I've asked him for the specs on it, and to confirm that it is DOM. Joel- it would be great if you could look at it, but I certainly don't expect you to drive that far to do so (unless you just really wanted to.....). I was kind of hoping someone would come up with a bunch of reasons to NOT buy the car....... but I appreciate the honest opinions. Bret.
  15. http://speed.racingjunk.com/category/84/Improved_Touring/post/1991316/1971-BMW-2002-ITB-legal.html This car has caught my attention. Does anyone know the car/owner (maybe he's on the board??). Anyone in the area want to look at it for me??? Looks like a decent car for a fair price. Thx.
  16. Hey Bob, yeah, if that's the one he's got FS for ~$13.5k, then that's out of my range right now. I'd like to find something in the ~$4-6k range MAX, otherwise I might have to live in the car too.... I know cars in that price range are likely to be a bit tired, but they are out there....... Thx, Bret
  17. Haven't been around here much lately, but I've gotten the bug for a 2002 Track/race car. Those who know me know that I am looking for a good deal on something. I don't need it to be a perfect show car- in fact, I'd prefer that it was not. Stock-ish engine/drivetrain is fine, though I'm not opposed to some reliable upgrades. I already have a bunch of parts/project cars, so I'm not interested in anything like that. Prefer something within reasonable towing distance from Raleigh NC area. I was interested in Paul Wegweiser's IT car he had FS a couple of months ago, but the time and $$ was not right for me to buy it. So, if you have something, or see something FS somewhere- please send it to me or post it up here. Thx, Bret.
  18. I'm sure someone will know better if this is not true- but I think all of them were supposed to be sealed off, but over the years of removing and reinstalling the studs, many of them are now knocked out. It's not a big problem, just put some threadlock or hi-temp gasket sealer on the threads of the stud and nothing will leak out.
  19. Paul, I'd like some details, I'll email you directly. Thx, Bret.
  20. With all due respect ESTY- STFU. Good on ya Rob. Rig.
  21. E30's in general are GREAT cars. Practically bulletproof provided you perform some basic maintenance AND change the timing belt every ~60k without fail. The bumper comes off with 2 large bolts that go up from the bottom thru the eyes in the bumper shocks. Some are large (~10mm) allen bolts, though most are large (~T50) torx bits. Just remove the 2 bolts from below, then pull the bumper away from the car evenly- you'll have to unplug the side marker lights too- and it will come off. Used bumpers are ~$100-150 each, as they are a popular upgrade for the early bumper car owners (the big silver diving board bumpers like the square-tail 2002's had). You'll find varied opinions about upgrades/mods (much like 2002's), but get the car back in good stock condition and go from there. Might want to think about lowered suspension (shocks/struts/springs) since the original parts are probably tired and worn out anyway. Wheel bearings, front control arms and rear subframe/trailing arm bushings are probably tired, and are a must do if you plan to track the car. There's not too much in the way of easy engine mods- you can get aftermarket chips but some actually lower HP- though they claim to raise it. Bret CRAP, this was supposed to go below danjrusdug's post about his new E30.
  22. Ohh, Esty, Bill is 100% correct. There are a couple of different size flex joints ("Guibos") used on various E30 trannies. It's not a huge problem if you get a tranny with a different size output flange- you can just swap the flange from the old tranny to the new one. Driveshaft length should not be an issue as long as you stick with 5 speed 325/325e/325es/325i/325is cars as the donor. Bret
