  1. There are some on this board that frequent C n C, They could reach you easier if you left some clue as to how to reach you, or activate the e-mail link in your profile. Try posting this on the main discussion board to get their attention. I hope you get to Cars and Coffee, it is a great way to spend saturday morning if you are "Car Crazy" like the rest of us. Enjoy your visit to Southern California. Unfortunately I am a couple of hours north of Irvine, so it is a very early wake-up call to get to CnC on time.
  2. I agree with Bill about using PBR. That is the old Repco pad, and I've used them on my tii for 30+ years. The only place I differ is I run the PBR Deluxe which is an organic pad instead of a semi-metalic. They stop great, have virtually no dust or squeal, and are easier on the discs than the Metal-Masters. The Metal Master is a good choice if you run a car hard, but also need time to get hot before they are effective. I run these on all my BMWs except my E60 (not available yet) and even on my Tundra. Everyone always asks how I keep my alloy wheels so clean! BTW, I know Mesa Performance online carries them in stock and has good prices, but they are widely available at good import part suppliers. That is good to know, I just put PBR Deluxe pads, new rotors and wheel bearings on the Touring. It is sure nice to be able to stop again without drastic pull to the left, and that horrible scraping sound. I still try to compensate for the pull but don't have to anymore. I do like the Deluxe pads, of course, anything is better than metal to metal.
  3. Blunt is a great guy and all, but I don't think I want to see him in a Spandex super hero suit. LOL! His "big Hair" and a tight spandex suit......what a scary image. Wish you hadn't mentioned it. BTW, I haven't received my parts yet. Of course, I haven't ordered any for a while. But I will ditto all the claims of "Great Guy" to work with. Hope this doesn't go to his head, With all that hair, it can't possibly get any bigger.
  4. Factory stock 1802 touring 100+ wheels Ronals (obviously my favorites)
  5. Every day, rain or shine.....of course, we don't get much rain here. Lots of ash, but no rain...
  6. It was great meeting up with you again Skip, and to meet Greg who looks like he's going to be a real enthusiast too. California eh? I'm game if my work doesn't have me in some other part of the World. Cheers. October 24, 2009 Los Angeles http://www.socalvintagebmw.com/index.html 2nd annual SoCal Vintage BMW meet. You guys can travel route 66 from east to west, picking up more participants along the way. Heck, we could drive to Arizona or Barstow and meet you to drive back to LA. Then again, putting you up in Santa Barbara could be a possibility too.
  7. Agreed, having the car brought back is the only way I could possibly pull this off. Any rough estimates of the cost of transporting them back?? Now you have my creative juices flowing....How about going the southern route (I-40) and travelling some of the old Route 66 from Barstow on up to St. Louis?? Great roadside stuff all along there. Just brainstorming. We could probably get sponsorship and magazine coverage with that one. Now that could be fun! Probably should start a new thread if this picks up speed.....
  8. I have seriously thought about it.....We all need one great road trip in our lifetime.. Imagine it, growing larger as we cross the country. Now, don't get me thinking too much about it.
  9. got any more tired san francisco gay jokes? Nah, bad judgement....got too many good friends and relatives in the SF area. I fell off my "TriteCycle" after that last post. Plus the pic was very scary. Seemed funny at the time. Unfortunately not so in retrospect. My apologies... Hope to catch you during one of my '02 visits north...
  10. From the description, it looks like you got yourself a very nice car. Welcome to the "Madness".
  11. Peter Pan??? How appropriate for San Francisco.....
  12. My first 02 was an early '71 and had the gray one with the single barrel solex. I have single barrel solex on 1974 1802 touring (obviously euro)
  13. Good eye, John. It is only on Santa Barbara cars to clear the smoke from our frequent wildfires.....J/K It is a Touring thing....the windshield is different than the other 02's, (Steeper rake, and I think it is flatter) so it has a little different position and direction.
  14. Actually, my '71 had a dark gray/green filter housing. Couldn't match it with what I had on hand, so..........it's gray. Some of us have original stock gray air filter housings. Nice article, Mike....
  15. Paintscratch.com Very pleased with their "inka" match, should be fine for "fjord". http://www.paintscratch.com/?gclid=CJXb3uOv_JkCFRwwawod_gs8LA
  16. To clarify what appears to be a misunderstanding.....It looks like this year there is only one fee. ($20). All fees are paid at the gate, there is no fee charged at the online registration. Last year they tried something new by letting people in early if they paid $40. This didn't get them into any "special" parking area, just early entrance. The "classics" are the only BMWs that get any sort of reserved area. The only reason it has some order is because we fight to keep spaces open for the older BMWs, against the onslaught of hundreds of late model cars. I will be out of town during BFest this year, so some of you may have to make arrangements with the Bfest people, get there early and try to hold enough spaces for the "early" Bimmers. New venue this year, not sure how they are going to handle things. Good luck and enjoy the beauty of SB.
  17. Herbie goes to Monte Carlo (1977) with a few 02 and BMW co-stars is on Turner Movie Classics tonight. Sappy, but fun to see the cars on the roads of france. enjoy
  18. Michael...that's too bad. It really looked good when I saw it. You are telling us that it failed, and never even got out the garage?? how sad.
  19. picture of embossed trim from 1600-2 road test in February 1967 Car and Driver.
  20. couple of good photo threads from the Porsche forum. Man, we gotta go on this next year, I know they would welcome a large contingent of 02's. Looks like many, many miles of great California driving. http://www.stanford.edu/~dtscott/targacalifornia.html http://picasaweb.google.com/malibularry/TargaCalifornia2009?feat=email#
  21. Jim is right, while all of you are here in SB, I will be up in Davis, attending a relatives wedding. Pierre has always done a great job trying to establish order among the classics, even before I started attending BFest. He may jump in and continue this year. Enjoy.....I will miss the fun of gathering with all you 02 fanatics. I know the organizers of BFest like having all of us there, and usually bend over backward to accomodate us. Should be the same this year. A couple of you just need to take charge to get what you need.
  22. Most vintage Blaupunkt and Becker radios have an AUX plug in the back in which you can plug an iPod converter. Let me know if you need more info / pictures. Agree, very easy hook-up. Did a cheap "quick and dirty" hook-up works great. male mini-connection/wire, couple of resistors...bingo, tons of MP3 music through the radio. under 10 bucks.
  23. Twenty-five cent part................A quarter fits quite nicely under the nut and over the opening.
  24. This guys got some good stuff, and it is pretty reasonable. He is in Costa Mesa, so should be close to you. http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Woodys-Custom-Shop_Vintage-Style-AM-FM-Radios_W0QQ_fsubZ174354919QQ_sidZ15060589QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322
