  1. So, when did BMW start using these shrouds? My late '73 manuf Touring never came with one, and the first time I ever saw one was on my '76. The original radiator (no place to connect a shroud to it) was fine until the car arrived in Texas and I then installed a 320 rad to assist cooling. I do not have a shroud and have no cooling issues.
  2. James, If you want to part with the BS compliance sticker, let me know. All the lettering has been wiped off mine on the Touring. lescartwright@juno.com
  3. Actually, the last LHD Euro Tiis left the factory in Jun '75. The last RHD Tiis were made up until Oct '75. So quite possible this "barn find" was first registered in the UK in '76. They stopped making US spec Tiis in Dec '74.
  4. Shanghai (China), but only for another few days, then home to Elmendorf, TX
  5. Sorry to hear that Richard. The MOT must be worse now than it was when I was there (20 yrs ago). Move to Tejas, no problems here getting it through inspection.
  6. As my unit is almost as old as the car, this may not apply to a new unit. On mine there is a wee screw behind the RH (?) knob so you can tune the unit to your aerial/antenna. Find a bad reception station and turn the scew to get best reception. Maybe the new breed of radios does it automatically?
  7. There's one very near to you. part # 34314650041 from a neu klasse 2000.
  8. Let me know if you get it, and i'll add you to my list of Touring Owners in the US. lescartwright@juno.com
  9. Blacking out the trim was popular on Euro (German) cars. I bought my first '02 (a '71) in Germany; it was just over a year old and the PO had blacked out the rear chrome and front grilles just like this one.
  10. Yes, BimmerBros auctioned it in August. It supposedly sold for $9000, but was re-listed. From the auction pictures, it looked like an honest car that had not been messed about with (apart from those awful front seats). As mentioned, you need to look under the carpets and under the carpet covering the rear shock towers. 4 yrs ago, the car resided in MA. ps RHD is absolutely no problem over here, and you would have 1 of only 1876 RHD Tourings made.
  11. Les -- I'm at the Pudong Shangri-La, and have a pretty full schedule (unfortunately) for business -- but it's (forgive me, I don't yet understand all the numbers) something like 86-21-6882-8888 extension (room) 1261. Might have some time tomorrow (Friday) night, although they keep us pretty busy (I didn't know that when I posted originally). I had a few moments yesterday afternoon and found a cool model shop up around People's Square -- and I bought two die-cast BMW models that I now have to haul back and declare at customs. I'll try to post pictures. But, if you're so inclined, you should grab the other two die cast that they have there -- the pre-war bathtub car, one in silver, the other made up as an emergency vehicle. PS -- I'm keeping count of how many people offer to sell me counterfeit watches. At last count, it was about 150 offers and rising. PPS -- I also found the BMW dealership in the shopping district. I thought (silly me) that maybe they'd have something cool to take back, like a BMW Shanghai hat or something -- then I remembered how vigorous BMW is, at protecting their brand. Everything in the dealership, therefore, looked like everything else at any other dealership in the world. The cars did have some Chinese characters on the boot lid (I assume the dealership name?), but the dealer wouldn't sell me those characters (I don't think the salesman understood what I wanted -- clearly he wanted to sell me a new 5-series, but all that I wanted was the Chinese character sticky). Only watch offers? You're in the wrong part of town! I have an out of town inspection Friday - not sure when i'll get back. If you're still here Saturday evening, i'll be in the Blue Sky Bar, Tongren Road #304. It's in the road directly behind the Portman-Ritz Hotel. I'll be there by 9pm to deliver some music and watch Premiership Football and sup some ale. It's only a small place, but just ask for Les.....they kinda all know me.
  12. Happen to have these two pics. I think you nailed it! Looks like pin #4 illuminates the clock etc and is wired through the main headlight switch. The wire colour looks like Grey-Blue. HTH
  13. I have a Bosch Silver in the Touring (under the dust). Bought it 1996 (UK) and its still going but no doubt not for much longer. Anyone know if they are available in the US?
  14. Actually, sort of. I was in Guangzhou 3~4 yrs ago and saw a couple of buses with an early Inka '02 on the side. It was part of a Hewlett-Packard printer ad campaign. There's a model shop near my Hotel (Shanghai Stadium) that has two Polaris Turbos and a Sahara 1600-2 in 1/18, but at 660 rmb I have resisted the temptation. I think they are Kyoto (sp) models. I leave out of Beijing on the 19th Dec, and may get there a day ahead. I usually stay at the Lido and amuse the girls in the Pig & Whistle. Talking of temptations................

  16. Yes!!!! But I left the '02s at home. You can contact me on:- China cell 13482239156 or US cell 412 327 5305 or email lescartwright@juno.com Cheers, Les
  17. Quite right John. As a Touring Owner, I think of them as Touring alloys though. They were part of the "Sport Package" offered for the Touring and feature in the Touring Sales Brochure from early (Apr?) '71.
  18. Re: Curb weight. here is some info I got from a German website a while back. Saloon = 990kg (Euro) 1088kg (US) Cabrio & Targa = 1040kg Touring = 1030kg Turbo = 1080kg Add 20kg for auto trans models. HTH
  19. It was advertised on Roadfly earlier this month for $22k, but has since been removed. The 3 listings have it located in Arlington, Woodbridge & Halifax. $9.6k does "look" like a bargain compared to $22k
  20. You do get a parts car with it too! He's the guy selling the "some assembly required" Turbo, which also comes with a parts car.
  21. Yes, male to male (certainly for later cars). Look through the cobwebs on my pic. A new one costs around $80-$90 but I do not know why it should. Jaymic probably sent you the one for right-hand-drive which is male/female.
  22. Yes, one of those classic Ebay gem descriptions. Maybe his "mechanic" led him astray. From what can be seen in the pics it's a US car (sidemarkers, rear tag lights). It does have the elusive hood earth strap though!
  23. Or, even easier. If your pics are on your computor; on the message page see "add an attachment. Click "browse", find the pic then click "add attachment". Picture needs to be less than 1/2 mb.
