side window slop fix

My driver's side window has some slop in it... it shifts up and down at the window guide (item #18). It looks to me as if the plastic sliding piece (item #17) is the culprit. Only as you can see it is no longer available. What is another way I can tighten this up? Or does anyone have 2 good used sliding pieces I can buy? Any suggestions?

Welcome to "Stoopid Little Parts World."

I'll be your server...

I saw how Keith Kreeger (my2002tii.com) did his windows and he was able to order up some of those "stoopid little parts" while they were still available.

Six months later when I was refitting my windows, they were NLA.

Hmmmm...

So, with both doors apart, I removed all four of #17 and switched them around -- the most worn was replaced by the least worn and they were refitted. If you're doing one door at a time, switch the top part with the bottom part, and put it back together. (Wash, rinse, repeat.)

Use lots of white lithium grease during the reassembly process.

Incidentally, I came up withe the "stoopid little parts" lexicon -- that's a small shiping envelope with $200 worth of little parts in it -- during my conversations with Paul W. when he worked at Maximillian's.

Of course there was a time (in the 1980s,) when those $537.24 front fenders were about $120.00...

But those are "Stoopid Big Parts."

forward - unfortunately, more small parts made of one sort of plastic or another (like these window blocks and the rubbing blocks for Golde sunroof pop-up wind deflectors) go NLA all the time.

If someone with the capability of producing molds and doing small runs of parts could be located, perhaps collections could be taken on the board to cover the cost of making the molds, then limited runs of "unobtanium" plastic parts could be sold through the FAQ store to benefit both the board and injection molder.......

Their normal leadtime is 3 weeks for nominal $2k mold charge. The first 25 parts are usually included in the mold price. All you need is a CAD model of the part, upload it, and receive a quote via e-mail.

I wonder if a CAD model could be made that "conjoins" several parts into one and the buyer just has to separate the part from the "chaff". Their plastic material selection is quite extensive.

Contact Max and have him put in a word to M/T and get them going on this...it's unlikely everyone on the planet knows about the 2002faq and it's enterprising board members.

It's gonna take a lot of sales of these little parts to buy back the cost of tooling. Who's gonna front the $$$ ???

sunroof pop-up wind deflector from a piece of teflon sheet. Stuck it down to the deflector with contact cement and it works just fine. If it's the plastic anti-rattle pieces that fasten to the underside of the sunroof, they're still available from Porsche--about $3-4 apiece last time I priced 'em.
