71’ 02’ cylinders 1 and 2 firing issue

Recommended Posts

Here we go! Resolved last ignition issue ishhhh, but now face another. Cylinders 1, and 2 are not firing. Distributor cap…check, spark..check, fuel…check, vacuum leaks…check, valves adjusted..check. Popping from cylinder 1 when attempting to fire. Guessing creating pressure when valves are fully closed. Thoughts?

A little more about your engine, stock, tii, duel carbs? Which distributor and how is it set up?

If everybody in the room is thinking the same thing, then someone is not thinking.

Switched plug wires no change. Stock brand new Weber 32/36 carb nothing fancy.

So.. compression check  check or no check? I asked about this in last thread but dont think you replied about it.

Its called "process of elimination" all the cool kids use it to troubleshoot, better than just throwing parts at it😉

Really dumb question, but do you have the spark plug wires in the correct order:  1-3-4-2? Is the rotor aligned to the mark on the dizzy rim when the #1 cylinder valves are both closed?

And did you check those bakelite spark plug terminals to insure they're

  1. tight on their wires
  2. aren't cracked or pieces chipped away from the spark plug end that might allow the spark to jump from the terminal to the head

Update. Compression test went well. All cylinders around 125. Turns out when I did an ohm test on the wires 2 of them were dead. Ordered a new set from IE. more to come.
