Rad shop couldnt repair my heater core

Like the title says my rad shop called and said they cant source an apropriate size core to recore my heater core. This is the one rad shop that's reputable in Richmond VA.

 

It's small enough to ship to another shop if anyone could recommend one.

Otherwise perhaps I'm buying a replacement. This is from an early car so has the smaller inlet and outlet

Now, where did I put those spare radiator cores I've been saving?

I have used Radiator Works in Northridge, CA.  Fantastic craftsmanship and service.

I would highly recommend.  Not the cheapest but I believe might be cheaper than a new one.

12 years ago I got a heater core from 2002AD in Pomona, CA.  Still works just fine.

If you do go with a used or refurbished unit, make sure you get one with the small hose nipples.  Sometime in 1971 (don't have the VIN memorized 😉) the factory enlarged the hose diameter (and the control valve).  So measure yours and have the seller measure his/hers so you'll get the correct one for your car.

They are under that second box on the left, near the back up radiator hoses 😎

Just got off the phone and was quoted approximately $265 on aisle 4

I think at one time Austrian Vespa Guy was looking into sourcing a possible alternative. But I don't think he needed to use one. He has a nice fix for the heater box fan. 

 

He was looking at this, but I don't think he tried to install it.....

well they cleaned and pressure checked 2 of them for $157 (both ok), I'll ask what would it be for the recore tomorrow when I pick them up and send a pic.

right now my plan is to send off to 2002AD for either repair or replacement. 

replacement quoted at $300

repair would be less but can’t approximate
