My driving gloves have the shift pattern on the back of the hand so I always know what gear I'm in.

I can see how knowing what gear you were in being helpful when you read the logs, but even then you can pretty much derive that by your speed and RPM.

Besides, it's COOL to have it on my display screen.  I think I can tell what gear I'm in without it though.😄

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

I don't really understand the advantage of boost by gear, unless you are drag racing and can count on additional traction due to aero.

Think of it like you have enough torq (hp) to lit the rears at will (again depends you tyres, suspension etc.). 1st gear you have, say, 0,5 bar - you can floor it. 2nd gives 0,8 bar - again you can floor it, 3rd - 1,2 bar -wot and so on. Pretty good in circuit racing.

Next upgrade for Jim?  A bigger screen!

Anyone else put in an DBW throttle?

only in the E30, and then with MS43... so yes, but no, not what you mean.

I really like DBC myself, just because I'm old, kurmudgeonly,

and am used to being able to

make 'driver's demand' rather than 'driver's wish'

(the German version of 'pedal position' as soon as the direct connection between airflow and pedal was broken)

I know what you mean, my 2016 340 has a dog pedal response unless it's in sport mode.

In the Haltech software, the pedal to throttle response is user set in a table.  It can be set so the throttle opens at any percentage for any pedal percentage.  If preferred to have 100 % throttle at 10 % pedal, it's set in that table.  I'm in the process of setting up that table for trial operation.

Now THAT sounds like a lot of fun!

With carbs, it's all 'bell crank this' and 'offset pivot that' and

'it's better than it was' is usually good enough, by the time

you've got hours into making a linkage.

Apparently, it's pretty easy to tune in MS43, but my daily came to

me with a DInan map, so I just cheat and paste that in when I'm in another car.

Not unlike the carb linkage, huh?

Jim, I think our 2016 Bimmers have 3 throttle map tables to pick from. The most aggressive is 1:2 (40% throttle = 80% torque). Then there’s 2 engine mappings in addition. My DME tuning software lets me have a linear throttle override in any mode.

Let me know how that 1:10 map works out!   lol

I need to talk to you because I would like the key on mode, which is Comfort to have a better throttle.  It's an aggravating to have to select another operating mode every time I drive the car.
