Door panel fodder

Recommended Posts

Good Monday Morning,

I removed my driver door panel and found an inscription behind the vapor barrier.  It doesn't appear it was written with a modern instrument (Sharpie).  Wondering if it came from the factory like this, anyone seen this before?  Also found a broken door brake and coil spring as a bonus.

Yup-

I've seen letters, numbers...

I suspect they had markings for various assembly notes.

Yours is particularly artistic, tho.

Something similar was on the 69's driver's door as does the pax doors and it and the  73's.

My '73 driver's door was apparently replaced before delivery as it has black primer inside (what all replacement parts had from the factory) and a part number sticker.  I have all the receipts for the car from new, and no indication the driver's door was replaced.

Mike during the Hoffman motors days the cars were shipped of as breakbulk cargo, no car carriers, so the cars were placed on flats and loaded on top of the main cargo, there was a lot of shipping damage done and may account for your door, The guy who repainted my74 first job was doing body work on the cars that came in damaged.

What is that off-white stuff on the door? Is it the compound used to seal the vapor barrier to the door frame? It’s not tacky nor does it seem like a good flexible sealant. If it was tack or flexible at one time, it sure didn’t stay that way, turning into some dry and brittle crap that can be scraped off the door.

I’m not sure what that writing is, It looks like initials I guess somebody signed it they must’ve been proud of their work.

I do have some crusty stuff left on my door panel,  I am in the middle of  some window track greasing now, I’m wondering what to use  to replace the stuff that I peeled off. I guess somebody was selling some stuff but does anybody have suggestions on glue and plastic film, Or maybe there’s some contact paper that’s wide enough.
