Turbo at Mecum

Golfcar

Recommended Posts

I have a friend in Atlanta that has been looking for a 2002 Turbo

Not many for sale.

This one comes up next week.

Could not find the VIN number published with the car but think I can see in a photo.

4290443

I looked on registry here and only 6 cars and not that VIN.

Does anyone know anything about this car?

https://www.mecum.com/lots/AZ0321-453373/1974-bmw-2002-turbo/

Thanks,

Gary

That is Gary Balleisen’s old car. Sold at Gooding in 2017 at Pebble Beach for $143k IIRC.

Thanks I did know it sold at Pebble. Trying to find out more about authenticity and history. Do you know Gary Balleisen?

Wonder why it's on Mecum. Not exactly the place to sell a BMW for a good price.

I don’t have contact info for him.  I imagine someone does though.

I find with many cars that go through the auctions, they just continue to go through the auctions.  Sometimes you see the same cars year after year in different parts of the country or even in Arizona, I will see a car at Gooding one year and RM the next.  Kinda interesting.  I don’t play in that arena, so observations like that are all I have.

The 2018 RNM $152k BaT Turbo sold at Mecum in Monterey, 2019.  It brought I think $156k so with all the shipping, fees and premiums, they’d have been better off selling for the high bid on BaT I think.

And for that kind of money, you get the super rare battery held down by a bungee in Motorsport red!

@Conserv
Can you find the accessory PN for that?

Maybe not but I'm not buying. Friend has Shelby Mustang GT 350 and others. His money. Has been asking me about this for a year.

Most of the major auction houses won't list a car with a reserve under $200k these days especially at the big auctions.

But apart from that rather minor detail I find it pretty darn good in originality. That said without being a turbo specialist in any means. Can you point out other things not right? Just to learn.

-rear seatbelts added?

-fuel line routing?

-tow hook hole not drilled

-fender seams not leaded

-black badges?

Still pretty minor stuff.

Hey, thanks for looking but I'm not the interested party just trying to help a friend find a car. Going to let him do the heavy lifting detail searches.

Thanks,

Any Northern Lights going on now? Would love to come photograph them.

Yes, fuel line routing, but I assume that is for a larger filter. I did that too.

Yes, tow hook not drilled

Black badges were standard, but black anodized, which fades, and not painted.

Too bad they don't show the underside.

And what is the red button where the choke should be? Cold start injector circuit not working?

In the end, the real (costly injection) tells would be in the driving, which we all know you can't do.

I guess to be thorough, you would want to know the history of the car, and you can't do that easily. So, you either just jump in, or not.

No reserve accounts for that, yes?

Nice car though.

Basicly just wanted to say it looks really good one to me but we always like to dig into details ?

Very rare to see northern lights here in southern Finland. I never see them but in pictures the next day ?
